Melissa nervous enters Beanies. She spots Emma at one of the booths and Hazel at the till. That doesn't make things easier. She sighs and joins Emma. Emma picks up on her girlfriend's tone and saddens. She already knows what's coming.
"Emma, I'm so sorry"
"but you want to break up. Can I ask why?" Emma interrupts.
"I've realised that I like someone else, I have for a while now, I guess I just didn't recognise the feeling. I love you but not in that way."
Emma nods, not sure why she doesn't feel the way she thought she would. Instead of feeling sad, she feels... Relief?
"I understand. We just don't have the same connection that we did. I hope we can still be friends?"
Emma cringes at what she is saying but does mean it. Melissa nods and they awkwardly hug. The clock chimes and Emma starts her shift. Hazel comes over and they both leave. As they walk down the street, Melissa cries into Hazel's shoulder. Hazel's hand sneaks round her roommate's waist and steers her home. Once home, Hazel guides her upstairs to her room that she shares with her sister, Deb, who is at school. Later she would join them but its just them two for now.
