Torien’s POV

I ducked under a piece of bread as the dwarves sung merrily while tossing food around.
“After ten years of trying to convince you one dwarf was good you go and invite 13 of them.” I remarked smugly. Father turned and looked at me sternly and I gulped nervously.
“You never fail to amaze me Torien.” He cracked a grin as he said this. I smiled back before looking around at the table of dwarfs.

There’s, an, Inn,
there’s an inn,
there’s a merry old inn.
Beneath an old grey hill,
and there they brew some beer so brown,
the man in the moon, himself,
came down, one night to drink his fill.

Oh,
the ostler has a tipsy cat that,
played a five-stringed fiddle.
And up and down he saws his bow,
now squeaking high.
Now purring low,
now sawing in the middle.

So,
the cat in the middle,
played hey-diddle-diddle,
a drink that’ll wake the dead.
He squeaked and he sawed.
And he quickened the tune,
and the landlord shook the man.

In the moon,
‘It’s after three!’
He said.

Han ind Darwin nauva vanwa ucaa al cen maara.” I said softly. To think that Darwin is dead doesn’t seem right. Father turned to look at me sadly.
“Darwin gorth ay aroto urdo.” He replied. Darwin died a noble death. I nodded simply as I let my eyes wonder around the room of dwarves. I came to a stop when looking at two dwarves, slightly taller than the rest. One with rich brown hair the other with a dark golden hair.

The younger of the two cheered with the rest as they sung but the older was looking at me deep in thought.
Nan pan thy?” I asked quietly. Who are they?
“Brothers, Kili and Fili, great nephews of Darwin.” Replied one of the elves serving food and drink. I turned to look at the elf when a grin spread across my lips.
“Idril.” I remarked bowing my head to her as she did too.
“It is great to see you awake Torien.” She replied. “It has been a long time since I have had such a friend cover my back in battle.”

One dwarf walked up to the head of the table when father, Gandalf and I sat.
“My name is Fili.” He announced. “If I am correct you are Lady Torien who fought alongside my great uncle.” Smiling I nodded. There was a shout from one of the dwarves as the group of them ran off back into the gardens.
“I must go.” He muttered before turning and exiting.

Fili’s POV

I had finally come to memorising the winding corridors, balconies and rooms of Rivendell as I spent more time exploring than the others. They had laughed at me for approaching the Lady Torien for information about my great uncle. For an elf she was quite short, only half a foot taller than Kili who was the tallest among our company excluding the wizard.

I stepped through a doorway I had not yet been through. I came to a stop when I saw an elf standing in the room. A book lay on the bed and a quiver, bow and two twin blades lay beside it. The elf stood fastening the arm guard by the window when I caught sight of the silver dress that lay in the closet.

No sooner had I realised these where Lady Torien’s quarters had I noticed the pack of provisions that lay at the foot of the bed.
“What can do to help you?” She asked still not turning around. I opened my mouth in surprise and looked around to see if she were addressing someone else before shutting my mouth again and taking a step forward.
“Darwin.” I said simply. She turned to look at me with an expression I couldn’t read. She didn’t seem like a lord’s daughter standing there in full hunting gear.
“He looked just like you.” She explained. “Except for the fact he was a bit shorter.” She quickly added before turning to look out of the window. She paused for a moment, her eyes scanning the northern edge of Rivendell before she turned back to look at me.
“If you wish to continue this conversation then speak with me tomorrow.” And with that she turned and exited the room. I watched her jog down the stairways until she was out of sight.
