Fili's POV
I ducked under another orcs blade before all of the barrels took a tumble down yet another waterfall of rapids. Finally all the barrels came to a slow near the bank of the river. Guilt was eating away at me. We had left Torien to, as far as I knew, a fate worse than death.
Everyone sat on the rocks either catching their breath, wringing the water from their clothes or quietly muttering to themselves.
"We lost the elves did we not?" Thorin asked Bifor. Bifor nodded in reply when I heard someone running. I span around to find a guard of Mirkwood with his bow out. I couldn't recognise them even if I tried because their helmet covered their face. The bow was fully drawn back and aimed at Thorin.
"Watch out!" I shouted jumping at Thorin to knock him to the ground but the elf had already let the arrow fly.
"You missed." Thorin laughed as the arrow flew only inches from his face.
"No, he didn't." Kili shouted as we all looked past Thorin at the orc that now lay with an arrow through its head.
"You saved me." Thorin stated shocked. The elf drew his bow again this time it was aimed at another figure. Taller than a dwarf. Unrecognisable due to the shadows that covered the bow man's face. Dwalin lifted a log and the bowmen let the arrow fly. It hit the centre of the log. Another arrow flew through the air from the bowmen aimed straight at Kili. An elvish arrow flew through the air knocking the other arrow to the ground.
"Do it again and you're dead." The bowmen hissed.
"I wouldn't be so sure." Hissed a voice from behind me as the elven guard aimed straight at the bowmen.
"Torien." I hissed instantly recognising the voice of the guard.~+~+~+~
Torien's POV
"What makes you think I will help you." The bargeman asked as he rolled another barrel into the barge.
"Those boots have seen better days." Balin proclaimed.
"I know where these barrels came from." The Bargeman explained. As he handed the note back to me. "No one leaves or enters Laketown but by leave of the master. All of Laketown's wealth comes from the woodland realm. The Master would see you in irons instead of receive the wrath of King Thranduil."
"I wager there are ways to enter the town unseen." Balin announced.
"Aye, there you would need a smuggler." The bargeman replied.
"And for that we would pay double." Balin proclaimed.
"Fine." Sighed the bargeman. Fili looked over his shoulder at where I remained hidden in the bushes. They needed to go ahead without me. The plan was to meet them on the other side of the lake and that I intended on doing.
