The guards started to lead us down to the cells when Legolas caught the arm of the guard who lead me.
"The King wishes to speak with her." He said quietly. Nodding the guard changed course and I was lead towards the throne room. I knew this room all too well.
"My King." Legolas said as he entered. Thranduil turned to look at Legolas when his gaze moved to me.
"When hunting we found a company of dwarves, and an elf." Legolas explained. I was pushed forward and Legolas bowed before taking his leave of the king for his nose was still bleeding.
"Torien." Thranduil said inviting me to explain my actions. I was surprised at the edge of kindness and concern in his voice.
"King Thranduil." I said bowing my head.
"After all those years with dwarves and then asleep it is a miracle you still have manners." He said turning away. I bit my tongue to stop any stupid remarks.
"It is good to see you awake." He stated turning to look at me again.
"Thank you." I replied.
"As for the quest you have started on and the company you travel amongst." I swallowed, waiting for the insult about dwarves or the long list of supposed mistakes I have made.

"But what makes you think I will just allow you to pass through my lands?" Thranduil questioned.
"Because I-"Thranduil cut me off.
"It has been merely a quarter of a moon and already you have lost your way again Torien." Thranduil continued. "You travel in the company of dwarves, you disgrace your kin and all of our noble race." He hissed. Something was wrong, his tone wasn't right. The words hurt, his body tone emphasised hate but his body language betrayed his. He looked guilty, hurt and sad.
"Many might say the same about you, 'King of Mirkwood'." I spat his title, sarcassium thick in my tone. Finally he had pushed me too far and apparently I had push him as well.
"Do not temper me child." Thranduil hissed. "You have a big mouth, no brain and too much honour."
"Sure tela cendeletyallo, minal thelte aearucar. Untinu en lokirim." I spat. Wind pours from your mouth, but never shall it be done. Son of snakes.
"Do not speak to me of Sindarin tongue." He hissed before turning to the guards. "Take her to a cell." He muttered as the guards grabbed me and took me down to the depths of the palace where 13 dwarves remained locked in cells.

"Good to see you joined us Torien." Balin said from the cell across from me as the door to my cell banged shut. "Why did the king wish to speak with you alone from the company?"
"Because I was engaged to his son before he almost killed me trying to kill the one I truly cared about." I replied hotly my temper still weighing out my sense.
"You loved him, Darwin." Said a voice from behind me in the cell. I span around to find Fili standing there. I didn't respond. Fili smiled sadly.
"It doesn't matter." Fili muttered.
"But what does matter is that I love you." I whispered softly.

~Flashback~

I moved walked down another staircase I hadn't ventured down before. Two days ago I had met with the King and prince. Two days ago I had seen that dwarf who was being held prisoner within this palace. Giving up on finding a quiet place to sit and think, I just sat down on the stairs and closed my eyes.
"What is an elf that is not a guard doing in the dungeons?" Questioned a voice from right beside me. I jumped back startled. Turning I looked through the bared door at the dwarf I had seen two days ago in the throne room.
"What place does a dwarf have in an elvish dungeon when he is guilty of no crimes?" I asked. The dwarf smiled slightly.
"You are not like the woodland elves." He remarked.
"I am an elf of Rivendell." I replied.
"My brother has travelled to Rivendell, he said it was beautiful." The dwarf muttered. "My name is Darwin." He announced.
"Torien." I replied.
"What brings you to Greenwood?" He questioned.
"Marriage." I replied. "I am to marry the prince."
"Oh." He muttered.
"What?" I questioned.
"The prince is quite... arrogant." He said after a moment's hesitation.
"Well that's mild." I laughed. "He is stupid."
"That's new coming from an elf." Darwin laughed. "I have always found elves distant, never warm and welcoming, more cold and forbidding."
"Only some are that way." I replied.
"That seems to be true." He smiled.
