Everyone started to move around the barn to find a spot to sleep but I moved to the far corner. I needed to practise. Not shooting or dagger spinning. I needed to practise my skills with water. I sat on one of the back stools at the table which was quite large.
"What are you doing Torien that requires you move away from the rest of the company?" Gandalf asked coming and sitting beside me. Sighing I placed my water skin on the table and turned to look at him.
"You have heard the Elvish prophecy of the elements?" I questioned.
"Yes." He muttered. "But please, don't hesitate to refresh my memory."
"An elf born of pure,
her heart gold and strong,
will be resistant to the lure,
a river flows along.

And fire shall rain down,
the power of flowing water,
the king's red branched crown,
disaster within a moons quarter." I knew the prophecy off by heart. I had memorised it a hundred times over. I knew I was the elf spoken of within the prophecy.
"You should get some sleep Torien." Gandalf said. "We have a long journey ahead of us." Nodding I stood and started to move to where the dwarves lay asleep before I turned back.
"Gandalf, our journey shall lead us through the Greenwood of old shall it not?" I asked.
"Yes." Gandalf nodded. "It is known as Mirkwood now."
"I know." I sighed. "The name was changed during the time of my last visit."

~Flashback~

"You are to marry the Prince of Greenwood." Father announced and I just groaned.
"He is arrogant, lacking self-respect and far from intelligent." I complained.
"Torien." Father hissed annoyed at my attitude.
"But father-"
"I don't want to hear it." He interrupted me. Sighing in defeat I leaned forward on the balcony ledge.
"You are to formally meet him a moon from today." I nodded in response.

"Torien." He said softly. I turned to look at him. "You know that I would not want you to marry for anything other than love." I nodded again. "And I made that quite clear to the king but he insisted that this is the only way the alliance could be complete." I nodded, sighing I turned back to look out at Rivendell.
"I'm three hundred years old, still just a child with the same wish. To explore the world, but now I am to marry a prince whose kingdom is at the centre of the war between elves and dwarves." I stated.
"I know." Father replied. "It seems no matter how hard I try I cannot keep you safe from this war." We both fell silent in a moment of deep thought.

"I am trained to fight but I still lack the courage to take an innocent's life, the courage to take one's life from them." I couldn't even believe I was finally admitting this to my farther.
"The greatest courage comes when the decision is made to spare a life, not to take one." I turned to look at father surprised. "Wars may be fought by soldiers but they are won by good deeds and lost by selfishness."
