beck was more than a little worried when she didn't get up for coffee. there he was, standing over her with her coffee, like he did every morning, and she still wasn't responding.
something was wrong. when jade didn't want coffee he knew something was definitely wrong.
so he shook her body softly and she grunted loudly and rolled over again, her eyes still closed.
"hey baby, everything ok? i have coffee" he added on the last part in attempted enthusiasm through his worried voice. she opened her eyes slowly at his words and moaned loudly. she mumbled something incoherent and sniffed softly, rolling her body over with a thump as she looked up at him through her red eyes as she coughed into her hand.
"oh baby" he pushed her hair back out of her face, keeping his hand there to feel her forehead for a second before caressing her cheek.
"you're warm" he told her softly and she moaned, coughing into her arm suddenly. he kept his hand on her shoulder and tried to persuade her to lie back down.
he ushered her two ibuprofens which she swallowed with ease as he encouraged her to drink more water.
"beck..." she managed to say quietly as he sat there and rubbed her back to calm her down.
"the baby" she said in such a little voice and he nodded.
"i'll go call the doctor right now" he patted her thigh and got up from their bed quickly, dialing jades pediatrician. it was probably nothing, but nothing could always turn into something when you're pregnant. and it never hurt to check.
ten minutes later he walked back in to jade in a loose t-shirt that was rolled up her stomach halfway and one leg under the covers while the other was bent unnaturally above them.
"he says it's probably just a cold, it's fever season. nothing to worry about and it should pass but we should keep you away from the terrors" he told her and she nodded softly, too tired to move and acknowledge the information she had been given.
"but there's only one problem. my parents are out of town and so that leaves your dad to drive them and pick them up from school. and to entertain them for the afternoon while you're here" he told her and her eyes shot open,
"no" she demanded and he sighed.
"jade, it's just a day. your dad does know how to drive and he may be our only hope of driving them to school" he told her softly and she seemed to be adjusting to the idea.
"why cant you spend the day with them?" she snarled and he smiled sweetly.
"because i get to spend the day taking care of you" he kissed her forehead and she smiled contently.
"fine. i'll call him and ask if he's available" she rolled her eyes, giving in because the realistic part of her brain was telling her they didn't really have a choice.
she hung up the phone a few minutes later and looked at beck,
"he'll be here in 20 minutes to drive to kids and pick them up at 3 from preschool and daycare. he mentioned wanting to take them to the zoo after" she listed off and beck smiled.
"see? he totally wants to spend the day with them" he told her enthusiastically, rubbing her thigh back and forth for comfort.
"if he doesn't kill them first" she muttered, lying back against his chest and shutting her eyes again, quickly drifting off to sleep.
when she woke up on his lap she moaned to alert him and he brushed her hair out of her face softly.
"you feel better?" he asked softly and she shook her head.
