"mama are we almost there?" logan oliver whined from the backseat. it felt like he had been waiting in the car for hours now and neither of his parents were paying any attention to him.

"yes lo" she sighed, turning around to look at him and rub his small leg back and forth which was sticking out and very close to kicking the back of becks drivers seat.

"how much longerrrrr?" he whined throwing his head back and nina made a loud squeak from her seat. jade looked to her and then back to logan with a sympathetic smile.

"soon bubba" she tried to explain, knowing the almost four year old had absolutely no concept of time whatsoever.

"why did we agree to do this?" she sat back in her seat and shot a glance to beck who smiled at her.

"because we are going to have a fun beach day with our friends. it's a nice day and i want lo and nini to go in the ocean for the first time" he smiled into the distance at the vision of his kids splashing around.

"but i hate sand. maybe they will too" she shrugged and he scoffed.

"that is not reasoning. you hate everything." he joked and she playfully pushed his leg.

"but especially sand" she huffed quietly and he raised his eyebrows at her. beck checked the gps and turned into the fairly empty parking lot, considering tori had found a beach in the absolute middle of nowhere, but it wasn't crowded at all and that was definitely a plus.

"we're here bubba" jade smiled at her anxious toddler who immediately tried to break the childproof lock on his car door.

"ma gagawels! mommy my gagawels!" logan stumbled out of the car and ran towards the sand as beck grabbed him under his shoulders and scooped him up.

"very nice goggles lo" jade commented as she unbuckled nina.

"slow down bud you gotta wait for mama and nini" beck explained as he adjusted the bright blue and green goggles on his sons face.

"gawagels" logan mumbled as he tried to adjust the strap on the back of his head and beck carried him back to the car.

they grabbed four towels from the trunk of their car and jade placed nina on her hip as logan raced beck to the sand.

"daddy i won!" he panted as beck came up slowly behind him.

"good job bubba you are so fast" jade praised.

sometimes it felt like all they ever did was lie to their kids.

they walked down the sand and were greeted by tori, andre, and their daughter clara.

"where's cat and robbie?" jade asked as they approached tori and andre.

"cat just texted and said they're on their way" tori read from her phone and they all nodded.

"how's this little one doing?" beck cooed as he bent down to eye level with clara, who was now a little over 2 years old.

"you know how the terrible twos are" tori tiredly smiled at her toddler who waved her arms around in the sand, spraying it into a million different directions as beck shielded his face.

"oh yes we know. lo went through them late and sometimes it still feels like he's going through them" beck nodded to logan who was almost completely upside down in their bag of sand toys, searching for god knows what.

after a few seconds he came up to the surface for air with a bucket in his hand and with a determined look in his eye, started running full speed towards the ocean.

"can you make sure he's ok please?" jade asked with a sweet smile as she sat back with a surprisingly sleepy little girl laying on her chest. beck nodded, hoisting himself up and running down to beach to catch logan.
