"bubba i'm not kidding" jade narrowed her eyes at the toddler in front of her who was giggling like a maniac while he practically bounced on the floor. when logan gave no response besides giggles jade had to physically stop herself from rolling her eyes.

"lo, get in your bed" beck added, walking up behind jade and putting his hands firmly on her waist.

"daddy noooo" logan whined, throwing himself on the ground with a thump. beck tried not to smile, thinking about how similar their son was to his mother.

"logan it's bedtime. you have 3 seconds." jade stated firmly and logan looked up, fear flashing across his face.

"3..." she raised her eyebrows and he scrambled to his feet.

"mama don't count!" he pleaded.

"2..." she said slowly, seemingly satisfied as logan flew under his covers.

"thank you lo. goodnight bubba we love you" she kissed his forehead and closed his bedroom door behind them.

"what happens after 1?" beck asked, smirking at her as they sat down on the couch.

"it's a secret" she sighed.

"why am i pregnant? i miss wine" she moaned in annoyance, throwing her head back against the back of the couch.

"we have that non-alcoholic wine my mom got us when you were pregnant with nina" beck held up an off colored bottle of wine and she raised an eyebrow.

"that's called grape juice"

he smiled and poured two glasses full of the strange liquid, sitting down next to her again and handing her one.

he watched her sit back and close her eyes softly, letting herself relax completely, practically melting into his embrace as he cradled her body.

"i was thinking about you in the car today" she said suddenly after a few minutes of sipping their 'wine' and silence.

"oh yeah?" he asked, rubbing the skin of her arm back and forth with his thumb.

"i had the radio on and they played 'teardrops on my guitar' by taylor swift" she added, purposefully leaving out key details to make him more interested. she was at a point where she just wanted to talk about anything and her mind wouldn't let her stop.

"that song reminds you of me?" he scoffed, so sarcastic it was almost a laugh. and she smiled at the tone of his voice.

"it was the very first song i learned to play on the guitar" she said, not directly answering his question, but adding onto her previous statement.

"is that so?" he prompted what she wanted to say. she was going to talk about what she wanted, his questions weren't going to steer her in any direction he wanted her to go.

"mhm" she stopped for a breath and then closed her mouth. deciding not to add on. silence took over the room. silence that only comes when two people understand each other.

"it was when we broke up junior year for a really long time and i thought you liked tori" she breathed out and he swallowed. they were adults now, high school was so long ago, but jade could never seem to let him forget that he tried to kiss tori. he thought about replying, but it would be the same thing she had heard a million times by now.

"and i heard the song somewhere, so i picked up some random guitar and i learned it. to this day it's the only song i know" she seemed to sigh happily, calming his nerves that she was blaming him for something. she looked off into the distance, like she was remembering exactly how it felt.
