Chapter Forty Five

ENRIQUE YAWNED, BEING AWAKENED to Joshua's pee flooding the bed. He was making growling noises and Jade was crying in the next room over. Enrique jumped up and saw he was soiled in his brother's piss too. His skin was itchy and he realized that was why Joshua was fussing as well. His skin was probably burning. They'd been laying in his pee for hours.

Enrique ran to go get his mom but she wasn't in her room. He figured she was in Jade's room so he did the same. No one was in there but the baby. He checked her as well but she wasn't dirty. Her stomach was growling profusely though.

Joshua ran throughout the big house, searching for Inola but there was no sign of her. He finally made it back to his room and called her phone. She always had it on vibrate and they would video call. Passing by her room he heard it buzzing and found it on the bed.

He was confused when he checked the front yard and saw the cars still there. Wasn't she in the house then? He figured she must've gone to the store on foot and forgot the phone. When he checked the time though it was 2:00 in the afternoon. If Joshua's skin was itching due to pee and Jade's stomach was growling, she had to have been gone for a while.

Enrique figured he had to step up and do something. He couldn't wait until his mom got back, because he didn't know how long that would be. Taking a deep breath, he ran to Jade's room first. His brother had always been priority and he didn't even like Jade. For the first time, he felt bad. No one was here for her but him right now. She needed him so he couldn't turn his back on her.

Enrique went into Jade's room and picked her up. He didn't know the first thing about taking care of a baby, but he would imitate what he saw his mom do on several occasions. He took her downstairs. She stopped crying as he was cooing to her. She knew his face from around the house but he never picked her up so she was in awe.

He went into the fridge and warmed up her bottle. He felt it and it wasn't that warm when it finished, so he did it a little while longer and when it warmed enough to him, he held it to her. She tried grabbing the bottle as she sucked greedily.

It didn't take that long to feed her because of how hungry she was. He was sure she wanted more but he didn't know how to make it and he wouldn't try; so she would have to make due with what she had. Plus Joshua was upstairs fussing in his own piss.

Enrique burped her and for the first time, kissed her. He kissed her cheek and hugged her tight. Not feeling any sort of resentment toward her anymore. He placed her on his mom's bed and went over to he and Joshua's room. He was heavy so Emrique had to use the sheet as a transport to the bathroom.

He gave a couple rough yanks and his brother hit the ground with a solid thud. He dragged Joshua to the bathroom using the blanket and then turned on the water. He himself was still in dirty clothes but he had to take care of his siblings first.

He set the water and watched as it started to flood the tub. He didn't have time to wait for it to fill so he put one foot in the tub and kept his other foot on the bathroom tile. With all his might be pulled the little boy up and placed him in the tub. He got a rag and some soap and began to wash him up.

Once done he got a clean towel from the closet and wrapped his brother in it. He once again made the trip back to the room, by pulling Joshua by the arms. He dragged him from one end of the hall to the other, into his mother's room with the baby. Jade was asleep but when the bed shook roughly, she got startled and started to cry. Joshua now lay on the bed naked.

Enrique made several trips back and forth until his brother was dressed. He then took a shower himself and put all the dirty sheets in the bathroom, he didn't know where else to put them. He hoped his mom would be proud of what he did today. He knew Joshua most likely had to be hungry as well, but he really didn't know how to do the feeding machine and he didn't want to try. He overheard it cost a couple hundred dollars and he didn't want to break it.
