"Did... she just... walk away from the Commander?" Connie asked, dumbfounded.
Levi sighed but didn't say anything, he just watched her walk further into the stables.
"C-captain Levi, u-um..." the scout had stuttered when he had told Erwin that Elena squad was not coming back until later, and had been ordered by Levi to go clean the stables.
"What is it, brat? Spit it out," Levi had said, already irritated.
"W-well, she uh- she told me to t-tell you that if you make me clean the stables s-she'd pour dirt in your b-bed," he swallowed, waiting for the reaction.
"Tch, idiot. She'd never have the guts to do that," he glared at the boy.
"What did she tell you to tell me?" Erwin had asked in a stern voice.
"U-uhhh, I don't think I should say, sir."
"Go on, I won't be angry at you, you're just the messenger, right?" Erwin had stepped closer to the boy who cowered in fear.
"W-well," the boy continued under the shadow of the Commander, "She told me to tell you, and I quote, 'bite me'... sir."
"She what!?" he had yelled, his eyebrows knitted together with anger, and grabbed the shirt collar of the scout.
"Erwin, release him," Levi had said blankly.
Erwin's face relaxed as he dropped the boy.
"Go clean the stables," Levi had demanded, his voice more irritated than before.
"Yes sir!" the boy saluted and then scrambled off towards his task.
"Who... who is that?" Eren mused, obviously in a daze.
"Oi, cadet," Levi smacked the back of his head, glaring at him.
"Ouch! Yes Captain?" Eren turned to him.
"Don't stare at her like that. She's a soldier too," Levi sounded angry.
"Yes sir, sorry sir."
"That goes for all of you brats," Levi swept his gaze across the boys still staring in the direction of the stables.
"Yes Captain!" They shouted in unison.
She is so beautiful, was the thought running through all the boys' minds. Levi rolled his eyes at them and took his turn to look towards the stables. Erwin had stalked off to his office, probably to steam about whatever Elena had said to him. Elena wouldn't really pour dirt in his bed, would she? Just as he pondered the question, he saw her squad emerging from the stables. All of them looked fairly beat up, which was expected, considering how long they had been gone for. One of her members, Veit, was being aided by another. He must have gotten hurt. Levi's eyes fell on Elena, who sensed his gaze and glanced back over to the group. He scanned her body, noticing the patches of dirt on her uniform and the thin layer of dust that coated her flawless skin. He watched as she slung what looked like a sack of dirt onto her shoulder, while making eye contact with the Captain.
Levi's eyes widened slightly, "Elena! Don't you dare go near my bed with that!" He yelled angrily to her, pushing through the group of cadets and making his way quickly over to her.
A sly smile spread across her face as she took off running in the direction of the barracks.
"Elena!" Levi growled, starting to run after her.
A moment of confused silence fell over the group as they watched the Captain run.
"Did we miss something?" Jean asked, looking at the rest of his friends.
"Obviously Jean," Mikasa rolled her eyes in response.
They looked to the stables where a young scout was emerging. After a glance between themselves, they all took off running towards him, making him stop and drop the broom he was holding.
"Hey! You!"
"Hey!"
The group called to him as they approached him. They took a moment to catch their breath, and then surrounded him.
"What's your name?" Sasha asked, getting in his face.
"Uh, Elias," he gulped, visibly nervous.
"Elias! My man," Connie started, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"What just happened with that girl?"
Elias swallowed, "Do you mean Captain Elena?"
"Ah yes, Captain Elena," Mikasa nudged Eren with her elbow, who was obviously daydreaming about the way her cloak flowed behind her and the wind tousled her hair gently as she rode past them.
He snapped out of it and focused on Elias, "Well? Spill!"
"Uh..."
"Oh come on! Just spit it out already!" Armin pressed, getting irritated. He wasn't one for gossip, but watching her walk away from the Commander like that had sparked interest inside of him, and anything that made Captain Levi run that didn't have to do with a titan was worth hearing.
"Well, Elena squad has been out on a mission for the last four weeks. But because of everything that happened, Commander Erwin wanted them back since they are one of the top elite squads. I was the messenger that Commander Erwin sent out to Elena squad to bring them back. I gave them the message and told them that they needed to come back with me, but Captain Elena refused, and said that they would be back in the afternoon. She also saved me from getting eaten by a titan."
"She refused a direct order from the Commander?" Jean asked, exasperated. Now she was his kind of strong woman.
Elias furrowed his eyebrows in thought, "Well, she didn't exactly disobey him, they did come back. They just didn't come back with me like they were supposed to."
"How is she able to do something like that and then walk away from him? I would be absolutely terrified," Armin spoke up, shuddering at the thought of disobeying the Commander.
Elias shrugged, more relaxed now. "I've only been in the scouts for a couple months. But they seem to have a close relationship, so that's probably why she can get away with it."
"What do you mean by 'close relationship'?" Eren asked, his thoughts running wild in his head.
"Woah woah, not like that!" Elias exclaimed, immediately picking up on what Eren had hinted at. "Captain Elena is one of the best scouts we have. She is highly respected by the Commander."
A series of nods and sounds of understanding swept through the group of cadets.
"Okay wait, but what was with that thing with Captain Levi?" Connie pressed excitedly, there had to be some drama with that.
Elias shifted, immediately becoming uncomfortable under their anticipating gazes. "Captain Levi had told me that if they don't return with me, I'd be cleaning the stables for a week. When I told Captain Elena what he said, she told me to tell him that if he made me do that, she'd pour dirt in his bed."
Silence swept over the group of cadets as they exchanged glances.
"Are you sure?" Connie asked, shocked. No one ever dares to mess with Levi's cleanliness.
Elias nodded slowly, as the group exchanged more glances.
"Oh this I gotta see!" Jean yelled out, taking off towards the barracks.
"Hey wait for us!" Eren called out after him as the rest of the cadets scrambled over each other to reach Captain Levi's room.
