Present - Elena

The next thing I knew, I was on the ground a few feet away from Ymir's titan. I groaned, rolling over to my back and staring up at the night sky.

"El!" I heard Severin call, and a second later, his face came into view above me. "You alright?"

I coughed lightly, "Just peachy, thanks."

He smiled softly, extending a hand down to me and pulling me to my feet. Looking around, the cadets were coughing and getting to their feet as well. A sigh of relief escaped my lips; if it weren't for Ymir's titan form, we would not have gotten out of that.

The relief was cut short, as the sound of stones shifting, and a low rumbling sounded from behind me. I turned around to see a titan emerging from the rubble, making me close my eyes in disbelief. It was foolish of me to think it was over.

"What, they're still not dead?" Christa's voice sounded from next to me, horror lacing her words.

"Some of them probably are, but for the ones who were further away from the tower when it collapsed, I doubt that was enough to take them down," I sighed, hearing my exhaustion fill my voice.

Connie looked to Ymir, "Hey ugly, you still have a job to finish!"

In response, she bolted towards the titan, jumping up and latching on to it's back.

"Wait!" I shouted, but it was too late.

Another titan emerged right next to them, grabbing onto Ymir's head and smashing her into a pile of stones.

"Ymir!" Christa screamed, seeing her lying motionless on the ground.

My eyes widened as multiple points in the rubble started to shift, and countless titans emerged. How did so many survive?

"Well, that's not good," Connie spoke up, his voice wavering.

I took a step back, we have to get out of here before the titans see us. No one else moved as we watched the horde pile themselves onto Ymir's titan. I looked to Severin, who nodded, understanding that we needed to leave.

Christa whimpered something that I didn't hear, and I was just about to say something, when she slid down from the pile of stones we were standing on top of.

"Christa, no! Stop!" I shouted, but she didn't listen, continuing to shout to Ymir and run towards her.

I clenched my jaw, glancing at Severin before taking off running after her. I didn't have to look back to know that he was following me. We were faster than her, so it didn't take us long to close the distance.

"Chris-" I started to yell, before I cut myself off with a gasp as a titan emerged from behind a large stone right in front of her.

Without hesitation, I engaged my ODM gear, shooting forward quickly towards the titan. My blades sliced into the arm that was reaching towards the cadet, making it stop moving and look down at its severed arm.

Before I could swing back around for the nape, an ODM line shot into the shoulder from behind, and a scout appeared, taking down the titan. We both landed next to each other, and I shook my hair out of my face, looking up to see who had come to our aide.

My eyes met Mikasa's, and I let out a breathy laugh as she ordered the group of cadets that we had been protecting to fall back.

"Wow, nice of you guys to show up," I said to her, watching as multiple scouts shot forward from behind us and took out the closest group of titans.
