Jean, Mikasa, and Armin had been walking down the hallway to their recruit corridor when they heard angry voices coming from one of the rooms they were passing. They stopped in front of it, peering through the small opening in the door.

"What's going on?" Armin asked, trying to see.

"It looks like the Commander and Captain Levi are telling Captain Elena what happened on the expedition," Mikasa responded, also trying to get a view of the two Captains and the Commander.

"I'm getting a closer look," Jean said quietly, creeping towards the door, ignoring the protests of his two friends. Eventually they followed him closer to the door, but still far enough away as to not get caught.

The three of them looked through the opening to see Elena standing angrily on one side, leaning over the table, Levi also standing but on the other side, leaning towards her, and Erwin sitting next to Levi.

Jean took notice to how close Elena and Levi were, their faces only inches apart from each other. They were staring intently, not saying a word. Then, Elena looked at Erwin and said, "The blood of those dead scouts is on your hands, Erwin."

Jean flinched back at this statement, and Armin cringed at the clear anger that filled the Captain's voice. They stumbled back from the door as they realized she was stalking towards them. They all jumped as the door was thrown open, slamming into the wall on the inside.

Elena made eye contact with Jean, pushing past the group and stalking down the hall, the way they had come from. Jean and Armin watched her go, dazed by the sheer power she emitted as she pushed past them, and shocked at the comment they had heard her seethe to the Commander. Mikasa rolled her eyes at the boys and focused her attention now on the fully open door.

Levi straightened up, crossing his arms and turning to Erwin.

"Well, that went..." Erwin sighed, rubbing his forehead.

"It went terrible," Levi spat, shifting his weight off of his injured leg. He secretly worried about his pain, but didn't show it.

"We knew she wouldn't agree with the plan," Erwin responded, looking up at Levi, "I think she hates me now." It pained Erwin to think that; he cared for Elena like a daughter. He knew that she saw him as a father figure, and it hurt to see her so angry with him.

Levi sighed heavily, "I'll go talk to her. She'll calm down eventually."

Erwin sighed as well, "Alright, just don't spend the whole night doing it." He gave Levi a stern look.

Levi glared at him but didn't respond.

The three recruits exchanged confused glances as Levi walked out of the room.

"Hey, cadets. What are you doing?"

"N-nothing!" Armin stuttered, jumping at the sound of his voice.

Jean cringed, knowing that they had potentially been caught. "We were just walking by and couldn't help but run into Captain Elena on her way out," he said nervously, hoping that the black-haired Captain wouldn't snap at him.

Levi stared at them, wondering how much of the meeting they had heard. He mentally shook his head, now wasn't the time to question them about what they heard, or what they had thought they heard. Calming down Elena was the top priority right now. All he could think about was talking to her, telling her about his squad and feeling the comfort of being with her again.
