Present - Elena
Examining Levi's face in the flickering light, I realized that he has been avoiding my gaze since we came back to my office.
"You've been in an interesting mood recently, Levi," I said, my voice cutting through the silence that had settled in the last few minutes.
His head moved slightly at the sound of my voice, but he still didn't look at me. "Have I?"
I chuckled quietly, raising an eyebrow at him. "Yes, you have," I responded, leaning forward in my chair to get closer to him.
"I hadn't noticed," he grumbled, finishing his drink and setting down the glass.
"Mhm," I mused, standing from my desk and grabbing both of our empty cups. Walking over to the cabinet, I set the glasses back inside, smiling a bit when I felt Levi's eyes on me. "Your mood wouldn't have anything to do with me, would it?" I asked, dropping my voice into a playful tone. Turning around to face him, I added, "Captain?"
I saw his face flicker, and his gazed trailed up my body, finally meeting my eyes. His jaw clenched as he slowly stood, not looking away. "Don't tempt me, Elena," his voice deepened as he spoke, the hoarseness sending my mind into overdrive.
Biting my lip softly, I looked him up and down, raising an eyebrow at him. "Or what?"
His eyes narrowed, and in a split second he had closed the distance between us. A quiet screech escaped my mouth as he grabbed me by the waist and hoisted me up over his shoulder. I struggled against his grip as he brought me into my bedroom and over to the bed, slamming me down on my back. I burst out laughing as I bounced back up at him due to the downward force. I grabbed him by the neck and pulled him back down with me, making him lose his footing and his body crash into mine.
I giggled as he laid on top of me, his face tucked into my neck. I heard a quiet chuckle from him before he lifted himself onto his elbows and stared down at me.
I gasped playfully, "Is that a smile I see?" I couldn't stop my own lips from turning upwards.
"Shut up," he responded, getting off of me and sitting on the bed.
I sat up and looked at him, "It looks good on you, Captain."
He rolled his grey eyes but I could see a slight blush on his cheeks.
"Do you want to know what looks good on you?" He asked, his monotone voice slightly faltering.
I raised an eyebrow at him questioningly, waiting for him to continue.
"Me," he said, and in an instant he closed the gap between us. Our lips crashed together; they fit so perfectly as if they were made for each other. I smiled against his lips, his familiar taste was mixed with the alcohol we had just drank. He brought one of his arms around my waist, pulling me closer. I leaned into him and wrapped my arms around his neck. He grabbed the side of my face with his other hand, a gentle but firm grasp.
We separated to catch our breath. I stared into his eyes, and saw the same hungry look that he had before Erwin got here. Levi released me and stood slowly, still catching his breath. My skin tingled where he had been, longing for his touch to return. He walked to the door and my face fell. Normally after being apart for so long, he doesn't hold back, especially since every other time we have been alone since I got back had been cut short by someone.
"Why are you leaving, Levi?" I asked, the disappointment clear through my voice.
He stopped at the door, "I'm not leaving." He pushed it shut, reaching up and turning the lock, and it clicked into place. "I don't want any interruptions." His voice was deep and coarse, just like it was before. He turned back to me, "We've had far too many of those lately."
