Flashback - Elena

I stifled a sigh as I walked out to the training yard. A few cadets were already gathered, but we still had around 5 minutes left before training was supposed to start. Due to the fact that Captain Levi was determined to find any fault, I made sure that I was early enough that he wouldn't be able to rag on me about my tardiness, but not too early so that he wouldn't get on my case about neglecting my duties. Mentally shaking my head, I tried to clear my mind and push out the conversation I had with Hange not too long ago. I can't believe she would even expect me to consider making a move on Captain Levi, purely for her entertainment, and her 'experiment'. Absolutely not. The fact of the matter is that he is a superior officer. It was almost like Hange was delusional, making things up in her mind that weren't true.

"El!" Severin's voice pulled me out of my thoughts, and I looked over to see him walking up. He seemed to have a spring to his step, like he was having a good day. Lucky him.

"Hey, what's got you all..." I paused, motioning with my hands to him, trying to find the right word.

He laughed, figuring out what I was trying to say without me having to finish my sentence. "Nothing in particular," he grinned at me, making me chuckle lightly and shake my head at him.

"Yeah, well, good for you," I muttered, crossing my arms and looking around for the face of doom. Training is bound to start any minute, where is he? Captain Levi is never late.

"Ohhh I see, something's got you in a bad mood huh?" Severin asked, a hint of playfulness in his voice.

I rolled my eyes at him, and tried to avoid his gaze. He wouldn't let up though, leaning over and moving with me to try to catch my eye.

"Severin!" I half-shouted, throwing my hands down to my side in frustration, and shooting him a harsh glare.

"Oh come on El, don't be like that," Severin whined, giving me a cheesy smile.

I rolled my eyes at him, but couldn't stop the smile that formed on my face. Seeing this, his smile widened, and I laughed lightly at his expression. "Alright, alright, you win Sev."

He pumped his fist in victory, "There you go. See, all you need is to come find me when you need cheering up, 'kay?"

I smiled, "Always."

"Cadets!" A sharp voice pierced through my ears, making me drop my smile and turn forward, throwing my hand up quickly to salute.

Everyone else did the same, forming straight lines in front of Captain Levi.

I took in a breath, staring straight ahead, not wanting to catch his gaze and draw attention to myself.

"We're going to be doing ODM training today, so go get geared up and come back once you are done. Don't keep me waiting," he snapped.

Feeling his gaze on me, my body involuntarily stiffened. I didn't want him to catch on that there was something else going on, because if he asked me about it, I have no idea what I would say.

No one moved, not wanting to get in trouble for leaving before being officially dismissed.

A silence washed over the yard, as Captain Levi watched us. "Dismissed," he finally shouted, and I relaxed, dropping my salute and turning immediately in the direction of the building that held our gear.

I walked as fast as my legs would allow, and heard Severin jog to catch up with me.

"Wow, you're in a hurry," he laughed, easily matching my pace.
