Present - Elena
I swirled around in Levi's desk chair in his office, waiting for him to catch up. I may be shorter than him, but I seem to run faster. Or maybe it was because I got a head start. I heard loud footsteps coming down the hallway that had to belong to him. I spun myself around again as his door burst open, revealing a worried and pissed Levi. He first looked to the door that led to his bedroom, which was still closed, the way he left it. Then his eyes traveled to the floor where the unopened bag of dirt was sitting, resting against the side of the desk. He dropped his shoulders in relief and finally looked up at me.
The chair was still slowly spinning as he glared at me.
"What, you thought I'd actually pour dirt in your bed?" I chuckled under my breath, giving him a challenging look. Sure, I had done other stuff to mess with him, like give him a dirty cup to drink out of, hiding his favorite cleaning supplies, and stuff like that, but I would never go that far.
He sighed heavily, making his irritation clear. He stepped further into his office and slammed the door behind him, not breaking eye contact with me, and making the walls shake with the force. He started to walk over to where I was sitting, so I straightened up and stared forward. By the time he got to me, I was staring at his stomach.
"You," he began, shaking his head. He grabbed my chin tightly with one hand, bringing it up so that we made eye contact again. "You irritate me beyond belief Elena," he let out a breath, still staring into my eyes.
I could see the irritation on his face, but when I looked deeper in his eyes, I knew there was more. I smirked, raising one of my eyebrows and shifting my eyes down from his to his lips.
"You are going to pay for that later," he growled, bringing his face closer to mine.
"Ooo fun, I can't wait," I taunted him, biting my lip slightly before looking back into his eyes.
I could tell he was struggling to keep his composure, his breathing deepened as I noticed the smallest waiver in his eye contact. I smirked again, leaning even closer to his face. I could feel his breath on my lips as I cocked my head to the side, as if to challenge him.
"You look like shit, Elena," he breathed, searching my face.
I chuckled, "Well, yeah, I did just camp out in the forest for a month." I kept my lips parted slightly, the ends of them titled upwards.
He finally gave in and shifted his gaze down to my lips, lingering before reluctantly reestablishing eye contact. I heard a low growl coming from his throat, making my stomach jump slightly. His grip on my chin tightened ever so slightly, but I noticed it.
"You really are pushing your luck today, aren't you?" his voice was low and coarse, something that I was all too familiar with.
"Don't I always?" I smirked up at him, allowing my eyes to wander down to his lips again.
Rapid footsteps bounding down the hall outside followed by a hurried knock at the door cut through the tension building between us. Levi didn't move.
"Are you gonna get that?" I asked, keeping my voice steady but leaving a hint of challenge in my voice.
"...Yes I'm going to get it," his voice was low and breathy, but he still made no move to open the door.
I raised an eyebrow at him and glanced over to the door. He rolled his eyes and released my chin. I sunk back into the chair nonchalantly as he stalked over to the door and threw it open.
"What?" he snapped harshly at the group that had formed outside.
The kids in the front stumbled forward and fell to the ground as Levi stepped back to avoid getting knocked over in the process.
I recognized the group as the same cadets that were outside when my squad and I had arrived. They all scanned the room, without moving. I stood up from the chair, rubbing my chin where Levi had been holding, shooting him a playful glare. He rolled his eyes at me as I refocused on the group. I squatted down in front of the ones who were still on the floor.
"Can we help you, cadets?" I asked in a threatening voice.
"Uh, sorry Captain- Captains," one of them stumbled, as they untangled themselves and stood.
I stood as well, not breaking eye contact with the boy who had spoken.
"What do you brats want?" Levi grumbled, annoyed by the group of kids.
"We heard that she was going to pour dirt in your bed and wanted to see your reaction," another one said, trying to see past us into the room.
I rolled my eyes, holding back a smile as I glanced to Levi. His face was blank, but he glanced at me as well. I was a little surprised with the boldness of the cadet, getting straight to the point without trying to fumble around with other excuses. We both stepped aside and allowed the cadets to peer in, seeing the unopened sack of dirt. They all groaned in disappointment and muttered to themselves for coming all the way here for nothing.
"Get out of my way, cadets," Levi started walking through the middle of the group, which immediately parted to let him through. He was obviously irritated at them for their curiosity, and for their disappointment that I had not actually poured dirt in his bed.
I shoved down a laugh at the situation, keeping a straight face as I followed him through the group and into the hallway, but I knew that my green eyes were gleaming.
"Oi, horseface! Shut my door," Levi barked over his shoulder, making the cadets jump.
The kid who had spoken that had fallen on the floor turned and shut the door to Levi's office. I allowed a small smirk to return on my lips as I glanced over at the scowl on Levi's face.
We both started walking down the hallway in the direction of Erwin's office, and I called back, "Get back to work!"
"Yes ma'am!" they all sounded behind us, saluting.
"Tch, ma'am," I mocked them, rolling my eyes.
Levi stole a glance in my direction, that didn't go unnoticed by me. "I still don't understand why you care so much about that," he rolled his eyes at me, but the smallest smirk formed on his lips.
"I've explained this to you so many times Levi," I huffed, taking on an annoyed tone in my voice. "It makes me feel old when they call me ma'am. I'm not old. Well, not as old as you at least," I glanced at him, waiting for his reaction.
"Tch, brat. I'm not old either," he snapped, narrowing his eyes at me.
"Sure Levi, whatever makes you feel better," I laughed, holding my hands up innocently.
Levi shot me a harsh glare, making me laugh even more.
