Present - Elena

Light pouring through the window brought me out of my sleep, and I squinted at the sunlight that hit my face. I quickly realized that I wasn't in my own room, and sat up to take in my surroundings, ignoring the dull pain that stemmed from my shoulders and back. As I looked around, my attention was drawn to the bathroom when I heard the door open.

"You're awake," Levi looked at me, leaning against the doorframe.

My breath caught in my throat at the sight of him, and I let my eyes roam his body. He was fresh out of the shower, a towel wrapped low around his hips showed off his toned abs and strong muscular arms. His hair was still wet, falling freely on either side of his face.

"Yeah, good morning," I grumbled with a yawn, stretching my arms above my head. Lifting the blanket off of me, I stood, straightening my clothes, and running a hand through my hair.

Levi watched me as I walked over, and I stopped in front of him. "You better have saved me some hot water," I said, sending him a playful glare.

He raised an eyebrow at me, "What kind of man do you think I am?"

I chuckled and brushed past him into the bathroom, closing the door behind me once Levi had walked further into his room. I showered fairly quickly, we still needed to meet with Commander Erwin about what he had planned for keeping Eren alive and in our custody. That entire situation still baffled me, the fact that I almost didn't even get to meet him rang through my mind.

When I got out of the shower and opened the bathroom door, Levi wasn't in there anymore. He probably got dressed already, and was waiting for me in his office. I pulled on my uniform and walked back into the bathroom to dry my hair. The view in the mirror startled me, dark purple and blue bruising covered my neck, feathering out to a reddish irritation, and then fading into my normal skin tone. I sighed, remembering the events that happened yesterday. The bruises were very obvious, and probably wouldn't start to fade for another couple of days. After I messed with my hair, I fully buttoned my shirt, swallowing at the constriction of my neck.

I walked out of the bathroom and finished getting dressed, buckling my harnesses firmly across my chest and my legs. When I first started wearing these, I would have irritated bruises on my skin every night. But now, it seems as though the straps have left permanent marks on my skin, and I feel like something is missing without them. Crossing Levi's bedroom, I opened the door and saw him sitting at his desk.

He glanced at me in acknowledgement and stood. "Ready for breakfast?"

I nodded, suddenly feeling the hunger hit me. We walked to the mess hall and sat down at our usual table. It was fairly empty right now, besides the cadets who were afraid of being late for breakfast.

The first thing we had to do was grab Eren from wherever he was. We ended up finding him in medical, which didn't surprise me, since when they first came back, he seemed to be in bad shape. What did surprise me, was that he seemed to be almost completely fine yesterday when he was in my office. Levi explained that with his ability to change into a titan, he also seems to have remarkable healing abilities, and supposedly even grew back some limbs. Just thinking about that made my brain hurt; how is that possible? I decided to push it to the back of my mind for now, I didn't have time to process it at the moment.

We took Eren to the meeting room Hange told us to meet them in, but it was empty. Sitting down at the table, I sighed, absentmindedly running my thumb over the bandages on my other hand. Levi had told Severin about me injuring myself again, so he had made sure that I had been putting on fresh ones every day.
