Present - Elena
Oh god, I really hope this works. I swallowed down my nerves as we traveled through Stohess; thankfully, our plan has been working so far, with cadet Jean pretending to be Eren in the transport. I thought using Jean was ridiculous, but sadly, he was the closest and somehow the most convincing match for Eren. Although Jeans' face is noticeably longer, they do seem to have the same sort of vibe to them. Slowly taking in a breath, I wondered how my squad was doing. I had fought to be with them in the evacuated city just in case something happened, but Erwin argued that it would seem suspicious to not have the top soldiers in the scouts escorting the transport with Eren. When Levi had agreed with him, there was nothing more that I could say that would change the Commander's mind. I had wondered if Levi only agreed with him because he wanted me to be in the safer position if and when something did happen.
We were fairly far into the district, and no sounds had come from behind us yet, which I took to be a good sign. That was, until the sound of a signal gun rang out, followed by a series of rumbling. The convoy stopped, the escorts and the soldiers not in the scouts took on nervous looks.
I glanced at Levi and Erwin, who gave me knowing, serious looks. Sighing, I clenched my jaw. I had doubts that this plan was going to work. From what I had heard from the first attempt, this cadet was very intelligent, which carried over to her titan form.
The MP Commander, Nile, sent off two of his soldiers in the direction of the noises, telling them to see what was going on and report back. He started mumbling to himself, obviously trying to hide his nerves, but failing miserably.
We stepped out of the convoy and looked at him.
"Nile," Erwin called to him, cutting off his rambling. "Deploy all troops immediately. We should assume that a titan has already appeared."
I started adjusting harnesses, making sure that they were tight and ready for ODM gear.
"Are you out of your mind? This is wall Sina!" Commander Nile shouted, turning completely around to face us. "There's no way a titan would just suddenly show up here!"
I scoffed. "You'd be surprised," I grumbled, tying up half of my hair out of my face.
The door to the cart with our decoy Eren swung open, and Jean jumped out. I shifted slightly to him, watching as he scuffled a little bit with the MP next to him before throwing off his wig and running over to us.
"Commander, what's the plan?" he asked, stopping in front of Erwin.
"Ask squad four for equipment," Erwin responded quickly.
"Sir!" Jean shouted, fastening his cloak around his neck.
"Like the bass balls, but try not to swing 'em so hard they get you killed," Levi cut in, rolling his eyes.
"Sir," Jean nodded to him, taking off in the direction of squad four.
"Captain Elena, you go too. Make sure Eren doesn't get himself killed," Erwin turned to me, motioning with his head for me to go.
I nodded, stealing a glance at Levi before turning in the direction Jean had run off to.
"Hey, what the hell! No, you are not leaving!" Nile stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Oh, so you want to go fight the titans then?"
"W-what? I-" he stuttered, visible sweat running down the side of his face.
"Then get out of my way, before I remove you myself," I said lowly at him, taking on a dangerous tone. If those sounds meant that Annie had shifted, that means that my squad could be in danger. This is why I had fought to stay behind with them, since I knew the probability that she would transform would be higher than her not.
