Y'all, peek at the new cover 👀~Chapter~
"Holiday! Holiday! We're going on holiday! Holiday! Holiday! We're going on holiday!" I giggle at Ciels servants in the wagon behind us happily cheering, "they're so lively. When was the last time they were on a vacation, Ciel?" I ask, "never." He answers casually. I blink a few times. I sigh, "well no wonder they're excited then."
Sebastian turns to look at us from the drivers seat, "they're very grateful to you for bringing them, such a kind young master" Ciel frowns, "well I couldn't just leave them at home alone. We might come home to find the Manor in shambles" Sebastian hums, "indeed." I lean back, "maybe I should've brought my servants with us, they probably would've gotten along well with yours. Both are a very lively bunch." Ciel huffs, "if yours are as eccentric as mine, it probably would end up with the whole village catching fire." I laugh lightly, "you're probably right."
We come up to an old wooden sign that read, Welcome to Houndsworth. Sebastian stops the wagon, the one behind us with the servants stops as well, "it seems we've arrived at the village everyone" he announces, "alright!" The servants shout at once, their faces then drop when they see the giant dead tree with shackles covering the branches, and skulls scattered on the ground. They scream when seeing the tree, "oh yes, I forgot to mention something. The resort that the queen is planning to make has yet to be constructed" Ciel tells the servants. They all slump sadly, "yes master.." they reply.
Irene motions to the dead tree, "well that's a lovely tree" Sebastian looks at Irene with a raised brow, "lovely you say?" Ciel and I look to the tree in confusion, "lovely she says..." Ciel mutters. I face palm.
|Earlier that morning|
"So, is it a holiday or a case? Cause either way it's something to do, but you said it was a case over the phone." Ciel picks up his tea cup, "both." He says before sipping his tea. I raise a brow, "elaborate maybe?" I ask. Ciel hums, "right. Have you ever heard of something called bear bating?" I nod, "I have. A bear gets chained to a fence, then it is surrounded by vicious dogs which slowly bite and kill it. It's a cruel game, but it's not common anymore because of the cruelty to animals act." Ciel sets his tea cup down, "exactly. The place we're going does something similar, but to dogs." My eyes widen, "dogs?" He nods, "sadly yes, the attack dogs they used were an exception to this rule, so they've created a new game." I frown, "that's horrible." Ciel nods again, "it is. The game is quite popular in the village we're going to, Houndsworth. It's long been known for raising fierce hunting dogs, but they take it further." Ciel takes a couple of bites of cake, "it breaks her Majesty's heart. So we will secure the village that is planned for a royal estate. A simple pretext to end the atrocities" my eyes fall to the floor, the queen has such a kind heart. She loves animals, that much I know, "I could only imagine how much this hurts her, it makes me upset just hearing about it" Ciel takes another bite of cake before he answers, "I had a dog when I was a child, so of course I'm a natural fan of dogs. Just thinking about creatures as kind as them being treated like that, it could make anyone upset."
