The Balcony

I laid in bed alone. It was late. Way too damn late. I felt a breeze blow on me. I pulled back the covers and sat up. The glass door to mine and Austin's patio balcony was slightly cracked. I stood up and walked over to the door. The closer I got the more I heard from the outside. I opened the door and looked out to see Austin shirtless, cigarette lit, and guitar in hand.

"What are you doing up?" Austin asked while taking a puff of his cigarette.

"I don't know honestly. I just woke up and saw the door was open." I said sitting down. I looked out over the ship to see the night sky. It was so beautiful here. Austin began to strum some cords on the guitar. I got very excited and looked over at him.

"Maybe I can play you something without getting interrupted this time." Austin said cocking and eyebrow and throwing me a smile. I giggled.

He starts to make sure the guitar is in tune and plays some cords of 'Stay.' I looked up at Austin.

"Why do you say every show your going to fuck up this song? You never do..." I asked. It was true. Austin claims every show he's going to fuck up Stay and never does.

"Baby do you not realize this is our song?" Austin asked, taking another puff of his cigarette.

"Well I know that Austin." I said blushing.

"Well... I guess I don't want anyone to remember it. Because it's ours." Austin said. I felt rushed with emotions. Like I was a teenager again.

"It's true...
That all that you know
Is all that you are
You said that it's hard and you wanted more
Fuck off
And pour another drink
Tell me what you think"

"I think your crazy in love with me Mr. Post." I said. Austin smiled.

"You know that I'm too drunk to talk right now
You put your cigarette
Out on my face
So beautiful"

"But I don't smoke anymore." I giggled. Austin shook his head at me laughing.

"Please woman don't break your back for me"

"I already am carrying this kid." I smiled.

"I'll put you out of your misery
Tell me that it's all ok
I've been waiting on this all damn day
Hey
Call me in the morning
Tell me how last night went
I'm here"

"But count on me to stay a little longer if you convince me." I sang changing the lyrics. I hated how sad he wrote this song. It was really about leaving.

"Tell me all the things that you have against me
Every time we make up the truth is fading
Everybody's blind when the views amazing
Damn who are we right now?"

"Ashlyn, Austin, and Tyler that's who." I laughed.

"Can we have a little conversation? Figure it out with no intoxication
We carry on, what is our motivation
We're never wrong how the hell we gonna make it?"

I started to take over singing while Austin played.

"Maybe we're used to it.
Tell me what are we to do?
It's like we only play to lose
Chase the pain with an excuse
I love that shit and so do you
But don't break your back for me
I'll put you out of your misery."

Austin looked at me. Maybe he was shocked on how well I could sing? He started to finish the song.

"Tell me that it's all okay
I've been waiting on this all damn day
Call me in the morning
tell me now last night went
I'm here.
But count on me to stay."

I was shocked Austin changed the lyrics. I was the one who would usually change them. I clapped. Austin took a bow in his seat and I laughed. He grabbed his cigarette to finish it off while I got up and looked out into the ocean and the night sky.

"Ashlyn." Austin said. I looked over at him. I realized he was only in a pair of joggers. His body glowed in the light of the full moon.

"I fucking love you." Austin whispered. I made my way over to him and sat on his lap, hoping I wasn't crushing him in the process. He didn't seem to mind thought.

"I fucking love you too." I whispered.

"You make me so happy Ashlyn. You really fucking do. I've had all this negativity in my life along with all this damn fame and you. You are the only thing that has kept me sane. I love you for that. You do the most simple things and it makes me love you even more. Meeting you at that party and slow dancing in my living room god I felt so alive. I knew I loved you from that moment. When you drunkenly kissed me, I knew I'd love you forever. I knew I'd stay with you."

I sat there looking at Austin. Lent down and pressed Austin's lips against mine. He just tells me everything I need to know. Tyler kicked me and it parted our kiss.

"Damn ok Tyler." Austin laughed. I giggled.

"What did I do to deserve you?" I whispered.

"You existed baby." Austin said pushing our lips back together. I smiled into our kiss. I felt so alive. I began to sit up and walk back to our bed.

"Come cuddle me love." I said looking back at Austin, still headed towards the bed. I heard him get up and follow me. I got into bed and Austin shut and locked the door and got into bed. He grabbed me by the waist and played with my hair in the dark.

"I love you." Austin whispered

"I love you too Austin."
