𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐔𝐏 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐖𝐎 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐒, since Carson was captured. And still, the Avengers were
not any closer to finding him. Ever since the video call with Nikolai, they had been working everyday to find a way to get him back, to find anything. But they seemed to be getting nowhere. Every clue they found led to nothing. Every potential witness, they found dead. Every location, empty or abandoned. They were barely making any progress and it was destroying them.
To top it off, they had a new enhanced individual wreaking havoc around the city and single handedly taking down SHIELD camps. When they arrived at the scenes, it was always a mess. Corpses of shield agents were left everywhere and sometimes they couldn't even identify the victims from how severe their injuries were. And it didn't help that they had no idea who this enhanced individual was.
Well, at least that's what they thought, anyway.
Steve walked into the kitchen where the rest of the team seemed to be situated and placed down a file in the middle of the island.
Natasha put down her coffee mug and picked up the file, starting to flick through it. "Another attack? Is it the same guy as all the other ones?"
Steve sighed and nodded.
"No leads on Carson, no leads on this guy." Tony huffed. "Not exactly our finest moments."
The file was passed around the table for everyone to read over but once it got to Wanda, she didn't even bother to look up from her plate. Instead she just sat with her chin resting on her hand while she moved her fork around her plate, playing with her food as she got lost in her thoughts.
Truth be told, she was exhausted. Both mental and physical.
Even after her hold on Carson faded she tried every night to reach out to him again. But nothing ever came of it. There was one time where she picked up on something but it was very faint and there was something about him that felt off, like it was him but at the same time it... wasn't?
Of course the rest of the team noticed the change in behaviour from Wanda but every time she'd just say the same thing, that she was tired because of training. There was no way she'd tell them what she'd been doing, how could she? There was no way that they would let her continue when they realised how much it was draining her.
Wanda felt a gentle hand being placed on her shoulder that pulled her out of her thoughts. She looked up to see Vision searching her eyes for any discomfort.
"Wanda, is everything alright?" He asked softly.
She gave him a small smile and a nod "Everything's fi-" Wanda paused when some movement outside the window caught her eye. She could've sworn she saw someone walk past the trees at the front of the compound. "Sorry I thought I just- never mind. Everything is fine Vision."
"So what's the damage this time?" Tony sighed.
"One of SHIELDS most well know scientists was killed while at a coffee shop, along with twelve other innocents that was in the vicinity at the time of the attack." Steve informed them. "The enhanced individual was spotted leaving the scene, wearing tactical gear and a mask covering his full face so we still can't identify him."
