CARSON FROZE, his eyes flicking between Wanda and the ring box that was in her hand. He turned around and closed the door behind him in order to buy him more time to think of something to say.
"How did—" Carson fumbled on his own words as he turned back to face her. "How did you... find that?"
"When I was getting off the bed to let you in," Wanda looked away from the box and up at him. "Your jacket fell off the bed and I reached down to pick it up... and then this box fell out so I— I got curious... and then I saw it and uh— I... is this for me?"
Carson scratched the back of his head and slowly started to walk towards her. "It was— is! Yes, it's for you. Still is."
Wanda glanced back down at the box, a smile starting to creep its way up on her face. "It's beautiful."
Carson looked down at the ring and smiled, gently taking the box from her hands. "It's the one you saw when we were in Italy. I knew how much you liked it so I got them to ship it over to Edinburgh and—"
"You remembered." Wanda looked up at him once more.
"Of course I did Wands." He shrugged. "Everyday when we'd walk past the shop, you'd always steal little glances at it. So the day before we left for Scotland, I had a look at it myself and I just... I knew. I knew that it was the one I was going to get to..."
A small gasp left Wanda's mouth at the realisation. "Wait. Hold on. Was you— You was going to..."
Carson hummed in response. As much as he wanted to propose to Wanda, he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that his initial plan was ruined. What happened in Scotland wasn't their fault of course, but now on top of that Wanda had found out by herself?
It was supposed to be special.
A day that would mark a new beginning.
Their beginning.
Wanda's eyes started to well up a little as she thought back to their anniversary. "Oh my god... with the lights, the fireworks, the things you said, all of that was— that was it wasn't it?"
Carson nodded and reached down for her hand, which this time she didn't push away.
"Yeah, it was. I had this whole plan on how I was going to do it but, well, you know. I'm so sorry Wanda, I know you always talked about a romantic and meaningful proposal and it— this isn't what you wanted. It should've been perfect."
Wanda shook her head and cupped his face. "Carson, look at me."
He lifted up his head, meeting her eyes with a small smile. She leaned forwards and placed a soft kiss on his lips before pulling away, looking at him with nothing but pure love in her eyes.
"It was." She told him. "It was perfect to me. It doesn't matter what happened. Aliens or not, that was and will always be one of the best nights of my life. And it was all because of you." Wanda shifted her arms so they were draping over his shoulders, one of her hands now running through the back of his hair. "Just because the plans changed doesn't mean my feelings, or answer would differ. Hell, you could propose to me in a random alleyway and I'd still be just as happy. Because at the end of the day, all I want is you. It all leads back to you."
"Well that's good, because I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon so." Carson grinned before taking a pause for a moment. He took a deep breath before speaking again. "Everything I said to you that night hasn't changed Wanda. Not in the slightest. Even if you did just go all Sokovian on me in there..."
He shot her a cheeky smile and Wanda playfully rolled her eyes.
"Well it was deserved." Wanda giggled.
