ONCE TONY AND CARSON ARRIVED BACK AT THE COMPOUND, Carson made his way over to Wanda's room to check up on her. Apparently there was someone waiting for Tony in his office but he didn't really care enough to ask about who it was, that wasn't important to him right now.

As he got closer to Wanda's room, the sounds that were coming from her TV became clearer. She was watching the news, again. He turned around the corner and leant in her doorway, frowning slightly as he watched her sit on the bed, attention fixed onto the TV with her chin resting on her hand, her eyes glossing over with tears a little.

"What legal authority does an enhanced individual like Wanda Maximoff have to operate in—"

Before the reporter could continue his sentence Carson picked up the remote and turned the TV off. Wanda sighed and didn't bother to turn her head, she knew who it was at the door.

"What did I tell you about watching the news?" Carson placed the remote back down on the table.

"It's my fault." Wanda mumbled, still staring at the now black screen.

Carson shook his head. "That's not true Wands."

"Turn the TV back on." She finally turned her head and met his eyes. "They're being very specific."

Carson sighed and began walking over to Wanda, taking a seat next to her on the bed. "I should've noticed Rumlow's bomb vest long before you had to deal with it. He started talking about Hydra and I just got so angry that I didn't even realise what was right in front of me. I could've helped you, I should've. And people died, it's on me."

Wanda shuffled closer to Carson and slipped her hand into his, interlocking their fingers and resting her head on his shoulder. "It's on both of us."

He turned and kissed the top of her head before speaking up once more, "This job... We try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn't mean everybody. I know it's not exactly a nice thought, but people die Wanda. Accidents happen. And if we can't find a way to live with that... then next time... maybe nobody gets saved."

Carson moved his position and placed an arm around Wanda, brining her closer to him. She smiled and nuzzled her face into his chest like she usually does, his presence already starting to make her feel better.

That was until she noticed the bandage on his arm.

"You got hurt because of me." She whispered.

"Don't... Don't do that to yourself Wanda."

"You would've never of had to go into that building if it wasn't for me, for what I did."

Carson removed his arm from around Wanda and unwrapped the bandage from around his arm, lifting his now healed arm up for Wanda to see. "Look it's all healed, ta-da!" He said, noticing the small smile that graced Wanda's lips. "I get hurt on basically every mission I go on Wanda, it's nothing new. Besides, I entered the building knowing the risks."

"I'm sorry." She her breathing became shaky as she tried to hold back tears. "I swear, it seems like all I do is cause chaos."

"Wanda..."

Carson gently moved Wanda's face so she was now facing him, frowning when he saw that Wanda still didn't meet his eyes but instead was looking down at her hands.

He reached down and picked up one of her hands, gently kissing the palm of her hand to show her that he wasn't scared or ashamed of her powers, of her. That she wasn't this monster that she believed she was. Wanda looked up at him and smiled concisely, before raising a hand up to his cheek and leaning in.

All of a sudden, Vision phased through the wall, making the couple jump and break apart quickly.

"Vis!" Wanda said, flustered. "We talked about this."

Carson looked at Wanda and raised a brow. "Oh you've talked about this, hm?" He mumbled.

Wanda smacked his shoulder. "Behave."

"The door was open so I assumed that..." Vision paused and looked between the two, only just realising that he had interrupted something. "Mr. Swan wanted to know when Tony had finished talking to his guest."

"Oh yeah, thanks V." Carson nodded.

"Uh..." Vision awkwardly looked around the room. "I'll use the door."

"I'll be down in a minute." Carson said.

Vision stopped in the doorway and turned around. "Actually, Tony wants everyone to come to the conference room. Apparently his guest wants to speak to the whole team at once."

"We know who this person is?" Carson asked.

"The Secretary of State." Vision answered, giving the pair a small smile before leaving the room. Through the door this time.

The couple both looked at each other, sharing a knowing glance. They knew what was about to happen, that consequences were to come.

But what they didn't know just yet...

Is how much it was going to hurt.
