Three days later.
"IT'S DIFFERENT? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" Wanda could hear Steve's voice coming from the lab as she got closer.
Wanda peeked round the corner and looked into the room, watching as Tony projected images of the research he'd been doing into the middle of the room for the rest of the team to see.
"I'm talking about chemically altering brain functions." Tony explained. "This isn't just psychological, we've been going at it all wrong."
"But you can still help him, right?" Natasha asked.
"Well I- Of course I can it's just," Tony sighed. "Whatever it is that Hydra has done to him is new, pretty much experimental. If I can find away to immunize the brain's neuropathways from the external-" Tony paused when he saw the confused faces of the rest of the team looking at him like he was speaking in an alien language. He groaned and sat down on one of the chairs. "I'm trying to find a way to make a counteragent. I just need a little more time. I already have a first draft but I need to run a few more checks."
Sam nodded at Tony's explanation and then looked over at Natasha. "How was he today? Any changes?"
Wanda perked up at Sam's question and listened in closely, waiting for Natasha to respond. Since the night that Carson returned to the compound, she hadn't seem him. It's not that she didn't want to, she really did, but every time she'd ask or try to go down there someone on the team would stop her from doing so.
"No changes since this morning when me and Tony went down there. He's still... not himself. He's barely speaking, eating, sleeping." Natasha shook her head. "I still think that we could've handled this situation in a better way, you know, not locking him up?" She looked between Steve and Tony, who both looked down at the floor not meeting her eyes.
Tony took a deep breath and wiped his hand over his face. "For the last time Romanoff, it's what's best for him while he's in this state!"
Wanda sighed and moved back into the hallway, sick of hearing everyone argue about what to do or what's best for him. She began to make her way back to her room but stopped when she reached the door that led to downstairs. She had never actually got this close before without anyone sending her away. Without even giving it a second thought, Wanda opened the door and made her way down the stairs.
She walked down the corridor, passing all the other rooms and empty containment cells until she came across his cell. Carson was sat down with his back leant against the wall, looking down at a random spot on the floor. He smirked to himself when he heard the sound of Wanda's nervous heartbeat and looked up, meeting her eyes.
"I was wondering when you'd come to see me." He tilted his head slightly as he looked at her. "I see your jaw has healed up nicely."
"Mhm." Wanda said quietly, tracing her fingers over the bruises.
"You know, I'm glad actually..." He started.
"Why's that?" Wanda cautiously took a few steps closer to the glass. "Do you feel bad?"
"I just..." Carson stood up and walked over to the glass, holding his gaze with the girl. "Would hate to ruin such a pretty face."
"You're unbelievable." Wanda scoffed.
"Hm." He furrowed his brows while in thought. "I'm going to take that as a compliment."
