Ghost Hunt AU: Mai Lovely Ghost

Chapter 18

Recap:

"Wait Naru. I know you want to look for..." Naru glared at him. "...we have tried to check some information that may be related to her and her disappearance but we have no luck..." Naru is still glaring at him. "...Except possibly now that is."

"Can you stop beating around the bush?" Naru said, patience running thin.

"Well... we thought that we were looking for a dead person, right? And we kept on doing research about it, right? But we should have also checked on the living."

"What do you mean?" Naru asked, although he can feel that the boy already have an inkling of what he wants to imply based on his attitude change.

"I saw her... She is alive."

"Mai is alive." Yasu continued.

"Don't joke around Yasu. You may have just saw her ghost." Monk said, not letting his hopes up.

He thought of Mai as his younger sister in the few cases that the had girl joined in. Hearing this and getting his hopes up for nothing is not good. Then he looked at Gene, who was schocked and then at Naru, who is trying not to be affected about what Yasu said. No matter how stoic he tries to portray he is, there is a good change in Naru when the girl arrived and he was happy that the boy was finally showing some emotions. However, he saw the boy in the downs when she disappeared and because of that he also didn't want him to get more hopeful.

"When did you saw her?" Madoka asked.

"Yesterday when I went to visit Ken."

"It may have been your hallucination Yasu, we have been trying to look for her." Masako said.

"I know you will think that but I have proof you know,.. here." he opened his phone and showed them some photos. One, that showed a girl in a pajama holding her IV stand as she walked beside an older woman helping her, possibly her mother. Second, the door rooms nameplate "Mai Taniyama".

Matsuzaki gasped and on the verge of crying. "Mai Taniyama. That was her complete name. She was alive!" Monk consoled his lover.

"Yes, she is alive as I've told you. She is on the same hospital as Ken. My friends sister who was a nurse in the hospital told me that Mai Taniyama was in a coma. She suffered the most severe injuries from an accident during her school field trip. Do you guys remember that horrible incident in XX Amusement Park almost a year ago? She was one of the victims."

"Oh no! Poor Mai!" Madoka exclaimed.

"Then let's go see her! It's a good thing the she's in the same location as our clients son." Yuki said excitedly.

"Wait guys, you may want to hear this too..."

Curious they continued to listen in.

"She have amnesia."

"What?!" It was Gene. He looked at his brother worriedly.

"Yeah... when I determined she was our Mai I visited her but not a hint of recognition. I talked to her mother before leaving and she told me that her memories are all jumbled up and that she can't remember anything before the incident. Her mother said that her last memory was a few days before her field trip, she said that Mai remembered preparing for her field trip and then woke up in the hospital bed."

Naru suddenly stood up and just went.

"Naru wait up!... Please let us know when you'll be visiting Ken." then Gene followed his brother. Lin bowed and followed suit.

"Do you think Naru will be ok?" Matsuzaki asked.

"Don't worry. He'll be fine." said Monk. In due time.

Mai tried her best to stand up as she grasped her IV stand and the bed for support. Her mother who usually helped her went out for a bit but she wanted to try her best alone. She took one slow step at a time and she successfully walked around her small room and then back to bed.

"Walking feels nice." she said smiling at her small win for the day, but it was gone the next second. "I wonder what happened." Will I remember what happened during the day of our field trip, the day of the incident? I'm... Her eyes watered, her friends are some of those that did not survived and a lot of people were hurt that day too. If I can remember, will that be of any help... from this pain. She cried silently not noticing there was someone who was watching her from afar outside of her window.
