Mary pouted and took her wife's hand into her own. They would have another hospital appointment, but she just heard that the person she wanted next to her most wasn't going to be there.
"Are you serious, Hermione?" She asked once more, hoping that one way or another she would still be able to make it. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
"I'm so sorry, honey. I wish I could change it, but I can get fired if I don't get in today." She said, pouting too.
Of course Hermione wanted to be there more than anything, but today was one of the days she simply couldn't miss. And if they would reschedule with the doctor, it could take them another month. That was way too long.
"I don't want you to lose your job... I just wish you could be there with me." Mary sighed quietly, but gave her that soft assuring look that told Hermione they were okay.
"Me too." She said, squeezing her hand tightly.
"I'm still coming with you, Mare." Fred promised, hoping that it would help just a little bit.
"I appreciate that, Fred." She gave her friend, and hopefully the future father of her child, a grateful smile.
"If you'd like, I could go with you too, for support?" Poppy offered sweetly, though kind of feeling she was trespassing if she would.
"You'd do that?" Mary teared up.
While Poppy had been nothing but supportive, she couldn't imagine that it wasn't complicated to have your boyfriend getting into this pregnancy with two other women.
"Yeah, of course. It's for the future kid of my boyfriend, and hopefully I can say the kid of two of my friends." Poppy smiled warmly, and since a long time she felt slightly insecure again.
"You can definitely say that." Hermione said, feeling all warm inside too. She trusted Poppy, and she was glad that she felt comfortable enough to be involved.
"Thanks, Poppy. That means a lot." Mary said, feeling better already.

Mary was laying down nervously, suddenly feeling so extremely exposed. She always felt like a fish out of the water without her wife there with her and it increased her anxiety to an almost unbearable level.
"Hey, it will be okay, Mare." Fred noticed the panic in her eyes and took her hand in his own, to make sure she knew he was there for her.
"What if it won't? It didn't work the first time. What if we need to try IVF, it's expensive and even harder on my body." Mary said, visibly worried.
She didn't want to think about the what ifs, but this time it was very likely that it was only the beginning of a very long road to their child.
"We're not giving up that easily, okay? We need to send some good vibes to that body of yours." Fred squeezed her hand, and as always used his glass half full attitude for the better.
"Don't you have to go?" Poppy asked, looking at her boyfriend.
"No, they froze my sperm, fortunately." He explained to her, giving her a small smile.
"You look tense." Fred focused back on Mary and tried to massage her shoulder with his free hand, but it had no effect.
"That's because I am. I don't know how to relax." Mary sighed deeply. She was feeling worse by the second.
Fred looked defeated, having no idea what to do to help someone so dear to him, who was putting her body through hell and back to get their child, even before they had conceived.
