Wedding planning wasn't as easy as they thought it would be, not even when they had agreed to keep it as small as possible. For some reason Mary and Hermione assumed it would go smoothly, but there was one big elephant in the room that Hermione finally dared to discuss.
"Why won't you invite your folks?" She asked Mary, slightly hurt.
Mary had casually mentioned that they weren't going to attended, even while they were fully supportive of her marriage to Hermione. However, her soon to be wife didn't understand why.
"Because honey, I don't need them there." Mary said, giving her a smile.
She scanned through the bridal magazines again, trying to see if there was anything that caught her eye.
"They are your parents, of course you do." Hermione argued softly, not believing that Mary could be okay with this.
"No, I don't. I love them, but we can celebrate by going out to dinner with them later, okay?" Mary took her hand and squeezed it, hoping this could be the end of it. She could read the hesitation in her fiancé's eyes.
"Look, I've never really thought about ever getting married, but you changed all that, Hermione. I just don't need a lot of people there to celebrate my love for you, okay?" She cupped her face, and wanted to kiss her, but Hermione leaned back, earning a confused look from Mary.
"You're ashamed of me, aren't you?" She asked, almost a little suspiciously.
"Excuse me?" Mary scolded and raised her eyebrow, clearly insulted.
"That's why you won't invite any family." Hermione said, believing that it was this simple.
"I cannot believe you'd ever accuse me of something like that. This is a low blow." Mary scoffed and turned her head away.
Her hand frustratedly got through her hair as she stood up and turned her back to Hermione. She wasn't going to immaturely walk away but she wasn't in the mood to even look at her right now.
"Do you ever want to get married at all, or are you just doing it for me?" Hermione asked, trying to sound tough while her heart was aching.
"I proposed to you! What more can I do to show you that I want to marry you!" Mary exclaimed emotionally, while turning back to Hermione.
"I don't want this if your heart is not in this!" Hermione exclaimed back, on the verge of crying.
"You think my heart is not in this?" Mary asked, her voice cracking with both sadness and anger.
"I can't believe you just said that." She shook her head, and this time she walked away— and Hermione let her.

Hermione hadn't heard from Mary for hours and was slowly going insane all on her own. She decided to go across the hall, hoping that at least one of her friends was home.
She knocked, which is something she usually didn't do. FP opened the door and was confused to see his best friend there, who most of the time just walked in.
"Little Mouse? You okay?" He asked worried, when he saw her red tear stained eyes.
"I think the wedding's off." She croaked, barely keeping it together.
"What? You're kidding, what happened?" FP's eyes grew wide and he took her to the couch, where they softly sat down together.
"Mary doesn't want to invite her parents and I don't understand why. It must be because she isn't sure, right?" Hermione sniffed, and another set of tears escaped her eyes. She wished for FP to have the answer. FP knew what he had to do.
