Chapter 15

"This is the fourth apartment we have looked at today, Sydney, you have to pick one" Dean said crossing his arms.

Sydney walked over to look out the window. "I just dont know about this, Dean"

"Can you give us a minute" Dean said to the superintendent.

"Sure, ill be back in 15 minutes" he said with a smile.

"Whats the problem, Syd?" Dean questioned

"I just dont like the idea of you being in danger. John is dangerous, you have seen what he is capable of" Sydney said, looking at Deans arm still in the sling.

"I can take care of myself Sydney, im still here aren't i?" Dean said putting his hand on her shoulder.

Sydney stared out the window, there was a park across the street. She stood and watched the little kids play for about a minute before turning around. "I like this one"

"Awesome. Ill go find the super and have him right up a lease, ill be back soon" Dean said.

Sydney sat down and pulled out her phone. She wanted so badly to call her Mom and sister. But she knew she couldn't. If John wasnt mad before, she was sure he would be now, knowing she had someone there for her.

John always liked to keep her alone. He wouldnt let her hang out with friends or go to parties like a normal young adult. He always had to have her under his thumb.

"It's for your own good you know" John said as she waved goodbye to Lisa, her best friend about to leave for spring break. "What do you wanna sit on a beach in a bikini for a week anyway, when we can be here together"

"It would be nice to be normal, John, to go on vacations and see other states" Sydney replied

"Im sure we will, one day" John replied

"Sydney!" Dean said, shaking her shoulder. "You need to sign this"

"Oh, sorry. Must have gotten lost in a daydream" Sydney replied. She signed the lease and then went into the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face.

When she came out, Dean had 2 glasses and some champagne.

"A toast, to us, welcome home" Dean said.

They clanked their glasses and drank.
