Hi! Enjoy!
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

"Yes Michael, give that project to Katrina," Annabeth said into the phone as she worked through the taxes. No one was home yet and it was her day off so she figured she might as well be productive and get two things done at once. "Hmm... That project I think, actually no, who do you think we should give it to?"

Just then the door opened and her children came in.

"Hey Mom," Luke said as he opened the fridge. "Why do we have no food?"

"Just give me a minute, Michael," She excused herself. "Your Dad forgot to go grocery shopping, again. Just give me twenty minutes I'm going to anyway after I finish these bills."

"Are you sure? I could go, I mean I don't really have anything to do today anyway."

"No it's fine, I have to go check on something at work so I'll go, why don't you relax today Honey. You just had exams last week didn't you?"

"Yeah."

"Don't overwork yourself then," Annabeth said to her son as she got back on the phone.

Luke turned to his little sister. "Lee Lee you wanna play dolls then?"

"Yes! I just have to show Mommy something." Her daughter said taking that something out of her bag.

"Kay then, Mom I'll be upstairs if you need me."

Annabeth turned back to her phone call. "Yes, he's perfect for the..." She trailed off as her daughter held a shining gold star in front of her face.

Annabeth's brain flashed back to when she was Silena's age. This memory was not a happy one.

(Flashback in italics)

Annabeth rushed into her house eager to show her Dad the gold star she had received for her excellent work in History. He'd finally be proud of her. Finally.

She heard her father's voice coming from the kitchen as she rifled through her bag to find the holographic star-shaped paper, the edges had been slightly bent from her bag but it was still in good shape.

Annabeth brought it out and stared at it for a moment, she had to admit she'd done quite a good job.

She ran to the kitchen nearly stumbling over the twin's lego on the way. "Daddy! Daddy! Look!" She shouted as she waved the star in front of his face.

"That's great, Honey."

He didn't even give her a second glance.

Annabeth thought he would be proud but apparently, she was wrong. Maybe she needed to try harder?

Tears started to prick her eyes and she looked down at the star again. It didn't look so beautiful anymore, not that it ever was.

What was she thinking? Any kid could get a stupid gold star. It wasn't that impressive.

Annabeth walked out of the kitchen brainstorming ways to get her father to pay her more attention.

She'd tried getting good grades, trophies for different sports, she even won the junior mathletes competition.

Nothing ever worked.

He didn't care about her achievements.

He didn't care about her.

(end of flashback)

Now sitting there nearly thirty years later Annabeth saw herself in Silena. The same excited and hopeful expression, the same age, even the star was a replica of her own.

The only difference was that this story would have a happy ending.

When Annabeth had first had Luke she'd vowed that she would try to be the best parent possible. Annabeth wasn't perfect, as much as she'd like to be, so she still made mistakes but she would be a way better parent than her own.

Annabeth didn't ever want her children to feel what she'd felt as a child. Ignored, unloved and neglected.

In other words a mistake.

She never wanted her children to feel like they had to impress her to get her to love them, that they had to be perfect in every way, shape and form to be worth her time.

No, they wouldn't ever feel like that.

Because Annabeth Chase-Jackson was not Fredrick or Athena.

She wouldn't pretend that her child didn't exist until they felt the need to run away.

She wouldn't disown them because they'd 'disappointed' her only to readopt them after they 'earned' her love.

That was a promise she would keep until she died.

Her co-worker's voice brought her out of her thoughts. "Annabeth? Annabeth, are you still there? Should I give the project to Greg or not?"

"Yep sorry, Greg sounds great. I have to go, Micheal I'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye." She hung up the phone and put it down devoting all her attention to the child in front of her.

Silena still had the same joyful and overeager expression on her face. An expression she knew all too well.

'I'm so proud of you!" Annabeth grinned as she picked her up and set her down on her lap. "How did you do it?"

"Mrs. Belfrey said that I did a good job in English today, she said I did vewy good in reading." Silena beamed as she mispronounced her r's. Annabeth was even more proud now, Silena was Dyslexic and often struggled with the subject, especially the reading part. Percy was going to be so excited.

"Well I agree with Mrs. Belfrey, you did do a very good job. Can I help hang it up on the fridge?" She walked over to the fridge with her daughter on her hip.

"Yesh! I'm going to put it here so Daddy can see it too!" The little girl said taking a piece of blu tack and sticking it on the back of the golden shape. She stuck it on messily with her small hands and it nearly fell off, Annabeth laughed and smoothed it out for her.

"Daddy's going to be very proud too."

"I love you, Mommy," Silena said as she nuzzled into Annabeth's neck.

"I love you too, Lena." Annabeth kissed her daughter on the forehead and put her down. Silena ran off upstairs probably to annoy her brother with her newfound achievement.

Annabeth sighed, she loved being a mother.

I've been writing this one-shot for a week. What did you think?

Ik it's technically not Percabeth but I'll just warn you now that not ALL of these one-shots are Percabeth, some may even be about other ships *cough* Jercy and Pipabeth *cough* that I enjoy.

But that being said it's still a Percabeth book.

Anyway, I was going to ask does anyone has any requests? I probably won't get to your request till later but I will still write it.

Thank you so much for reading! 🥰✨
