Chapter four: ~Lina

I awoke feeling a lot better if not too warm. I threw the quilt that was over me off and tried to sit up. When I realised something was constricting me I looked down to see an arm over my stomach, keeping me held tightly against a chest. I was beginning to get too warm and tried to wriggle free. Pain shot through me and I whimpered when the arm tightened around me almost to a suffocating point.

I continued I struggle until I heard a groan followed by a growl. I still struggles though just needing to be released from the warmth that was enveloping me from the body behind me. It still hurt to breath a bit but it was bearable now. After what seemed like forever I made it out of the death like grip and stood up. Stretching my arms out in front of me I noticed the hoody I had worn last night was gone and folded on the couch. Walking over I lifted it up and put it on again.

It was warm and brought comfort to me somehow...I inhaled deeply and sighed before leaving the room. I managed to walk down the stairs okay but I could feel myself becoming short of breath again. At the bottom of the stairs I could see the front door...but I was hungry and from reading books about werewolves and knowing about my own pack I decided trying to escape wouldn't get me far.

I began to look for a kitchen deciding food would help me think of a way around this mess I had somehow gotten dragged into. Last night I had found out I supposedly had a mate and now I didn't know what to do. I had never expected to have a mate and neither had anyone else. Being the only living half breed of my genetics meant very little was actually known.

After walking into various rooms I eventually found the kitchen. By then I was out of breath and sat on a kitchen stool taking deep breaths.

"You sound tired." Says a voice and I jump. I hear a chuckle before I turn to see a tall guy Looking not much older than me leaning next to the cooker. I just nod wary of this blonde haired, brown eyed guy. He smirked shaking his head at me. "I won't hurt you."

"Right...course not." I mutter.

"You hungry?" He asks and I just kid again. I wasn't really a talker and it was weird being given attention.

"Why am I here?" I ask.

"Because your our Alphas mate," the guy says.

"Hm yeah sure." I say looking at my hands. "I really doubt that. I'm unnatural and a bitch."

He sighs and turns to continue making me some food.

"You heard that huh?"

"Yeah."

"Give him time. He's spent his whole life hating your species...he doesn't understand what it's like to know one who isn't necessarily....evil."

"I don't want to give him time. I don't even want a mate. I shouldn't even have a mate." He just raises an eyebrow at me and I sigh. I didn't want to go into the reasons behind why I shouldn't.

After a while he hands me my breakfast and I eat quietly before speaking up.

"What's your name?"

"Tate, I'm the beta here. What about you mystery witch."

"Melina."

"Pretty. I was kinda expecting something more...sinister for your name like Ebony or Melissa."

"Sorry to disappoint." I say with a roll of my eyes. He chuckles and I find I quite like Tate's company. The food is really good too and I kinda wish I could cook. Maybe if I stayed I could learn to cook...although staying would mean I'd be loyal to the wolves. I wasn't ready to make any decisions concerning the war...not yet.

I think back to last night and Killian. I then drop the fork as I realise something.

"Where am I?"

"Huh?" Tate says looking at me.

"Where am I?" I repeat.

"America," says a voice from the doorway. Turning I see Killian leaning on the door frame and he did not look impressed. He was glaring at Tate and I shivered a little from it. I could clearly see they were having a mental conversation... Finally Tate leaves but not before sending me a wink and a wave. I hear Killian growl lowly and sigh.

"You left." He says before taking a seat opposite me.

"I was hungry." I mutter. "Besides where would I go even if I did leave?"

"I don't want you around other males."

"Sure why not just keep me oh I don't know chained to the bed locked up in the room."

"Do not tempt me Lina," I shiver and go back to eating my breakfast. "We're training you after you finish eating. I want to see how capable of a wolf you are." I gulp.

"What if I refuse?" I ask knowing already the answer to that question. He growls loudly and before I know it I'm over his shoulder and he's gripping me tightly to the point of pain.

"This is my pack and you follow my rules witch." I growl and try to escape but his grip really hurts and I wince in pain and whimper slightly.

---------------------------------------------

When we arrive in the training area I feel everyone's eyes on me. I hide my face into Killian's back not liking the looks people are giving me. When we stop I'm just dropped head first. Before I hit the ground I manipulate the wind to help me hover so I can recover before letting myself reach the ground.

"Was that really necessary?" I snap annoyed. I glare at him and he glares back. His eyes going dangerously dark. I should know not to challenge the Alpha but he has had this coming. If I was supposed to be his mate, that meant his equal and respect. I wasn't getting any of that.

"Isabella." He calls ignoring me. "You are to fight Melina here......in wolf form."

A rather tall girl walked forward. Although most people to me are tall. I'm only about 5'3. She bows her head to Killian before turning to me and shifting into her wolf. I gulp and look around for a way out. The pack surrounds me so there is no escape.

"Shift!" Killian says using his Alpha command on me.

"No." I say back cautiously eyeing the wolf in front of me. As I look closer I realise she was the one who first ambushed me. Great.

"I said shift!" He shouts and I wince in discomfort again.

"No! I won't shift." I say back staring him in the eyes.

"And why the hell not!"

"Because."

"That is not an answer!"

"Yes it is."

"Shift now!" He yells and his eyes are fully black. I don't back down though and state him out. Before I know it he is tackling me to the ground snarling. His claws have extended and I cry out in pain. "Shift!"

"I can't!" I snap back using my powers to push him off me. The little electric current hits him and he jerks back eyes widening at me. I get up hugging my arms. Everyone's staring and I feel really uncomfortable.

"I can't shift," I whisper "because I don't have a wolf...."
