Backroad Fate

Chapter 9

We were watching the sunset together while sitting on the back porch. Sitting there I realized that this was the life I had been waiting for. After so much pain, I finally met someone who understood what I had been through. In my mind, we both survived that pileup to find each other.

"I love you, Danny. I know that its sudden after only 24 hours, but I feel like I've known you my whole life,"
"I love you, too Maddie. And its not sudden. I feel the same way."

(Danny's point of view)

I've always believed in love at first sight. But looking back I don't think that Stephanie was love at first sight.  I did love her, and I still do. But with Madison it was love at first sight. We both understood each other's pain and had gone through the same terrible accident. 

(Madison's point of view)

I struggle sometimes with getting over the pain and grief. But I've come to the conclusion that this is something that you never get over. Sometimes you just have to fake a smile and say I'm okay when I'm not. Because he understands me and I understand him. That is a connection that you don't find often with someone. Being around Danny makes me feel safe, and I know without a doubt that this is where I belong.

When the sun set and it was finally dark, I could see all the stars. Me and Danny just sat in silence.
"Do you go to college? " He asked me, breaking the silence.
"Yeah. I'm going for my medical degree. " I replied.
"What job in medical do you want?"
"I want to work in the NICU, with the newborn babies. I love kids, and I think that that's the job for me."  I answered. 
"You'll do great........ Do you live in a dorm?"
" No I live with my Aunt. She lives 10 minutes away from campus. So like 30 minutes from here."
"Do you like it out here? I mean it has to be better than the city?"
"I love it out here. Its quiet and peaceful.  Its different than what I'm used to. "
" Have you ever rode a horse?" He asked me.
"All the time. During the summer my Aunt and I go to my cousin's ranch and we ride his horses."
"You must like it then?"
"Yeah."
After 10 minutes, we headed  inside and went to sleep. Danny said that we will need to go out tomorrow and get a new transmission and carburetor. He said there's a parts place down the road.

  There's so many things I like about Madison.  She's funny, kind, compassionate,  and she has a good taste in cars and sports teams.  Now that I've met her, I can't imagine my life without her.
