Backroad Fate

Chapter 39

     Denny just came back from his x-rays. Now we are waiting for the results. I've been trying not to look angry, but it's so hard. Jordan never should have came. If she cared about Denny she never would have hurt him in the first place.

     "Are you okay?" Denny asked, looking at me from the hospital bed.

  ..."Yeah. Why?" I asked.

     "You just seem mad. Is it because of me?" He asked, worried.

     "No, it's not because of you. It's nothing, don't worry about it."

     "I am worried about it. Please tell me." Denny replied.

  ..."Jordan showed up here while you were getting your x-rays. She heard about it on tv." I told him.

     "Seriously?... What did she want?" He asked.

     "I don't even know. She made me mad, so I told her to go. She had no reason to be here." I told Denny, sighing.
   
    "What did she say that made you so mad?" Denny asked.

..."She said that what happened between Danny and her was mutual, and that Sophia isn't really my daughter." I told him, hesitantly.

    "Why does she always have to start things... Come over here and sit with me." He said, waving me to him.

     I sat next to him on the hospital bed. He put his arm around me, and I laid my head on his chest.

     "What you have done for Sophia, both Danny and you, is amazing. It takes a lot of strength to do what you did. I respect and admire that very much. Sophia is lucky to have you. I want you to know that. Jordan wouldn't understand that. Our family is what is most important to me. Nothing will ever change that." Denny said, smiling at me faintly.

      "Thank you... I honestly don't know how I got so lucky." I replied, winking at him.

    There was a knock at the hospital room door.

     "Come in." I said.

     Hello, Hamlin family. I have your x-ray results." The doctor said, as he washed his hands.

     "Mr. Hamlin, it looks like you have indeed torn your ACL in your right knee." The doctor told us.

  Hello readers. I can't believe the Nascar season is over. As everyone probably knows, Denny, in real life did not win the championship, but his teammate Kyle Busch did.  Kyle rallied back from a serious injury, and being absent for 11 races, to win the championship. There is no one else that deserves it more than him. I have a feeling that Denny will win it next season. Fingers crossed.
