(Denny's point of view)
I couldn't let Madison know what I found out about our parents. It would destroy her. After everything she's been through, it wasn't worth telling her.
(Madison's point of view)
Denny and I just looked at each other.
"What aren't you telling me?" I asked him, intent on getting an answer.
"Nothing." He said, turning around.
I grabbed his arm, "Don't lie to me! You're not telling me something and I want to know what!" I yelled at him.
Denny sighed, "Madison, please..."
"What?"
"You don't want to know."
"I do."
Denny took my hands in his.
"It's about our parents, isn't it?" I asked him.
He nodded his head.
"Come on. I need to show you something." He said, walking towards his house.
He got his laptop and we went to his office. We both sat down behind his desk. He handed me a manila folder with a bunch of papers in it.
He looked at me, "Everything's in that folder."
I was so confused, and scared.
"I'll leave you alone to look at the papers." He said, getting up. I grabbed his arm, "Stay, please." I said to him. He had sadness in his eyes. I could see he regretted even showing me all of this. "Okay." He said, sitting down.
I opened the folder slowly. Inside was a ton of printed off papers. The first was a paper with two pictures of my parents. But they weren't ordinary, everyday pictures. They were mugshots.
"These pictures were taken five months before I was born." Denny explained, looking at me.
... .........................................
"That's why they gave you up for adoption?"
"Yeah."
............................................
"What were they arrested for?" I asked.
"It's on the next page. I got a hold of the police report. Our parents were involved in a drug and weapon cartel." He paused, "They witnessed a shoot out between police and the cartel. Two officers were shot and killed. The article is on the next page."
..............................................
"They were arrested and charged with being accessories to murder. Two months after I was born, the charges were dropped, because the government figured out that the prosecutor was paying the judge to rig the case in the prosecutor's defense. They were released from jail later that day." He finished.
At that point I was crying . Denny put his arm around me, "I'm so sorry." He said.
We sat there for a few minutes in silence, hugging each other.
"Did they do drugs or ever hurt anyone?" I asked.
"I'm not sure. But what I do know is that after they were released from prison, they led a better life. They learned from their mistakes, Madison." He replied, trying to comfort me.
"Thank you." I said to him.
"For what?" He asked, confused, because he just told me something I never wanted to hear.
"For being honest with me. You didn't have to tell me, but you did."
"Thank you for not hating me, because I kept it from you." He said to me.
I looked him in the eyes, "I know why you did. I wouldn't have told you, either."
He nodded, grabbing my hand.
"I'm so glad I found you, because now I don't know what I'd do without you." He said, smiling at me.
"I love you, big bro." I said, smiling.
"I love you, too, lil sis." He said, laughing.
We hugged and said our good nights. When I got to Danny and I's room, he was laying down with Sophia on his chest. She was sleeping, and Danny was watching her.
"Hey." He whispered to me.
"Hey." I said, laying in the bed next to him.
"What were you and Denny talking about?" He asked me.
"It's a long story. I'll tell you about it tomorrow." I said, snuggling into his chest, inches away from Sophia's face.
"I love you." Danny said.
"I love you, too." I replied, drifting off to sleep, after a long day.
