"Maddie... Maddie, we're here." I heard Danny whispering to me, trying to wake me up.
I opened my eyes and the sun was shining in my face. I blinked and covered my eyes to shield the bright light.
"Did I really sleep the whole flight?" I asked Danny.
"Yeah. You must have been really tired."
"I am. I haven't been able to sleep the last couple of nights. I've been waking up in the middle of the night. Then I woke up early this morning and I felt horrible."
"Do you feel any better?"
"Kinda." I replied, while getting out of the jet.
I could smell the ocean when I stepped out. It was a lot colder than I expected.
"Cold?" Danny asked.
"A little." I replied, crossing my arms.
"Here." Danny said, taking off his sweater and handing it to me.
"I'm fine, really. I have a sweater in my suitcase."
"Please." He said.
I smiled at him and took the sweater, "Thank you."
Denny had Sophia and was talking to her. I walked up to them, "Hey." I said to them.
"Hi." They both said in unison.
We all started laughing. Sophia was smiling at Denny.
"You guys are adorable." I said hugging them.
"Thanks." Denny said, smiling at me.
We all drove to the track in a small shuttle van. The road leading into the track was lined with palm trees. I was beautiful here. Definitely a lot different than Tennessee. I've been feeling very dizzy and sick, probably because I am incredibly nervous to start my new job as Denny's PR. I am also nervous about meeting all the other drivers.
"Are you okay?" You look a little pale." Jordan said, looking at me.
"Yeah. Just really nervous." I replied.
"There's nothing to be nervous about. You'll do great. Plus, You've already met some of the drivers, so you'll fit right in." Jordan said, smiling at me.
"I hope so." I whispered to myself.
Danny, Jordan, Sophia, and Taylor went back to the motor home, while Denny took me to go get my hard card. While we were walking back to the motor home, I stopped when I saw Boris.... The Boris from Joe Gibbs Racing.
Denny looked at me and giggled, "He doesn't bite, trust me."
Boris walked up to Denny, "Hey man! It's been forever since I've seen you." Boris exclaimed.
"We saw each other last week." Denny responded, laughing.
"This beautiful woman must be your sister?" Boris asked.
"Yes, it is." Denny said.
Boris shook my hand. "It's very nice to meet you."
"You, too. Looks like we'll be working together a lot."
"I can't wait." I replied, smiling nervously.
"Don't be nervous. It's a fun job."
"Thanks." I said, before we started walking back to the motor home.
(Danny's point of view)
I keep wanting to ask Madison what her and Denny talked about, but I have a feeling that she doesn't want to talk about it. I figure that she will tell me when she's ready. I looked at Jordan, who was watching Taylor and Sophia... "Do you know what Madison and Denny talked about the other night?" I asked Jordan.
"I don't know, but I've been wondering the same thing." She replied. "Denny's been in his office a lot more than usual. Especially during the off season, before he met Madison."
"Maybe it's about their parents." I suggested.
"Probably." She shrugged. "They'll tell us eventually."
(Madison's point of view)
When we got back to the motor home there was a folder of papers on the stairs.
"What's that?" I asked Denny.
"I don't know." He said, picking up the folder.
He opened it and sat down at the outside picnic table. After a couple of minutes, he put his hands over his eyes.
"What?" I asked Denny.
He grabbed my hand.
"We aren't related." He said.
"What?" I asked, in shock.
