Chapter 37

(Madison's point of view)

"What did you do?" I asked Denny, kneeling next to the chair he was currently sitting in.

"I landed weird. " He said, through gritted teeth.

"I'll go get you some ice. Will you be okay by yourself for a minute?" I asked him.

He nodded yes in response. I went inside and got an ice pack out of the freezer. Suddenly, my phone rang and it was Danny calling me. Seriously, at a time like this. I quickly pressed ignore and rushed outside to give Denny his ice pack.

"Here you go." I said, handing him the ice pack.

"Thank you." He replied with a faint smile. "Who was that calling you?"

"Uh... it was nobody... what did you hurt?" I asked him, changing the subject.

"I think I may have torn my ACL." He said, worry written on his face.

"Okay. Do you think you can make it to the car with my help?" I asked him.

"Yeah. But why don't you let Austin help me. I don't want you to hurt yourself." He replied, worriedly.

"I'm not gonna hurt myself, I promise. I'm gonna have Austin watch the kids while I take you to the hospital, okay?" I said.

"Okay. If you promise not to hurt yourself." He replied.

"I won't. As long as you don't fall on top of me." I replied, chuckling. He smiled at me, still in pain.

"I love you." Denny said, while looking into my eyes.

"I love you, too. Now let's get you to the hospital, handsome." I replied, winking at him.

"Handsome?! That's new." He said, winking back at me.

"Haha. Alright, on the count of three, I want you to stand on your good leg and put your arm around my shoulder, okay?" I said to him.

"Alright." He replied.

"Hey, Austin, can you watch the kids while I take Denny to the hospital?" I asked Austin, yelling across the yard.

"Yeah of course. Call me, alright?" Austin said.

"Will do. Thanks" I said.

"Your welcome. Anytime." He replied, walking over to the girls.

"Alright, Denny. Ready 1..2..3." I counted as he stood and put his arm around my shoulder.

"Ready?" I asked him.

He nodded yes, grunting in pain.

20 minutes later..........

I am currently at the hospital with Denny. He is getting x-rays right now. I just called Coach Joe and told him what had happened. J.D., Joe, and Denny's crew chief, Dave are on their way here. I am so worried about him. He was in so much pain.

There was a knock at the hospital room door.

"Come in." I replied.

The last person I expected to see walked into the room.
