We made it to the race before the rest of the crew so we just chilled. I knew as soon as they arrived because all of the spectators and racers alike parted like the red sea to let everyone pull up with Dom in front, of course. Dom was in a red Mazda RX-7, Vince has a blue Nissan Maxima, Leon has a yellow Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R, Letty has a burgundy '97 Nissan 240SX, and Jesse has a white '95 Volkswagen Jetta. They pulled in, in a triangle formation and all I could do was laugh.
"Does that always happen?" I asked my brother.
"Yeah, pretty much every time we come."
"Jesus, give him a bigger ego why don't you." I laughed.
Women and men alike flocked around Dominic Toretto and I just laughed again. Letty was glaring at all of the women while Leon and Jesse were taking advantage of all of the extra females walking around. I don't understand what the big deal is. Dom smiled at two girls and when he appeared to walk over to them, much to Letty's anger, he noticed Vince and me and diverted his direction over to us.
"I figured I'd find the two of you here." He said, looking at me before looking at my brother.
"Yeah, figured we'd just come straight here. I'll be right back, gonna talk to Hector about getting you in a race." Vince said.
"Alright, I'm ready when they are. You got the slips right?"
"Yeah, you better win."
"I always do." I smiled before he walked away.
"You always win?" Dom asked, making me turn his way again.
"Always, why?"
"We should race." he smiled.
"You should smile more, it's a very charming smile." I told him.
"Thanks, I think. You've changed."
"You mean to say I'm more of a loudmouth now than I was before." I laughed.
"Those weren't the words crossing through my mind but yeah, I guess so."
"Yeah, I was a lot quieter back then with my head in an engine or my nose in a book."
"I'm proud of you for getting your degrees."
"Thank you. It was important to me to do that."
"You're a smart girl, you did what you had to do." he said.
"That I did and I had to do something car-related because if not, who the hell am I?"
"I didn't realize you could get a degree in anything car-related. I thought it was just a trade."
"I've got an associate in Automotive Technology. Which is just a fancy way of saying I learned about transmissions, automotive brake service, climate control, and engine performance, most of what I already knew but I did learn a new thing or two. Course curriculum is focused on modern automobiles with their advanced electronic systems and ... I'm sorry, I'm a big nerd." I blushed.
"Don't ever be sorry for being smart and passionate about something you love, it's really attractive." he said, staring me in the eyes.
"You should probably go now." I whispered.
"Why should I do that?"
"Your girlfriend is on her way over here and I don't feel like fighting."
"Right ... I'll ..."
"Des, get over here!" Vince shouted and I barely heard him.
I walked away from Dom and smiled at Letty who was glaring at me. I know that at some point the two of us are either gonna get into a verbal argument or we're going to throw hands. I will not allow anyone to disrespect me and that appears to be the route we're going. It is what it is.
