Addison POV//

Bryce and I were on our way to the doctors office with Ryder, I hoped he hadn't lost too much weight because the midwife told me he will loose some since I'm breastfeeding but if it's too much then he will have to have formula. He was also tiny when he was born so if he drops below 6lb 2oz he will have to be formula fed. Anyway I let those worries go as I just stared at my sleeping little baby in his car seat. I still sat in the back with him because he is still so small, I decided to take a pic of his cuteness. It was also December 22nd meaning 2 days till Christmas Eve which was exciting. I loved Christmas but I feel this year it's going to be a lot more stressful.

We made it to the doctors and we were sat in the waiting room, thankfully Ryder was still sleeping but I knew it wouldn't be for long after I had to strip him down into his diaper.

RN= Ryder's nurse

RN: Ryder hall?
B: yep that's us

We stood up and Bryce carried Ryder's car seat as we followed his nurse. They did the usual check and asked a bunch of questions but now it was the part I was dreading, getting him weighed, I could already feel how cold this room was so I wasn't happy about doing it.

RN: ok so if you could just take all of his clothes off so we can weigh him!
A: ok but it's really cold
RN: I know but it's only for a few minutes

I started by taking Ryder's little bear jacket he was wearing since it was so cold and then his sleeper. Instantly he started to squirm and cry which broke my heart, I then proceeded to take his baby grow off and now he was hugely upset.
I passed him to the nurse who weighed him whilst he was crying at the top of his lungs, I looked over to Bryce who had a mad face in at the nurse, I couldn't blame him to be honest. She gave him to Bryce to get him dressed and warm again whilst she spoke to me

RN: right his weight has dropped quite significantly he is now 6lb 1oz which is very small and because you are breastfeeding it is normal to drop a bit but he was already tiny when he was born...
A: ok so what does that mean?
RN: usually we would move them onto formula but since he is small he needs the nutrients and vitamins from breast milk so the only way to help him gain more weight is to give him a shot.

That terrified me thinking about giving a one week old a shot but I knew it was going to help him and I was relieved I could still nurse him.

A: ok then, today?
RN: yes I need to do it now, hold on whilst I get my things. •she left•
B: what happening baby why do you look scared?
A: they have to give bubs a shot
B: what why?
A: because he is not gaining enough weight
B: aw he will be ok, it's the best for him
A: yeah I know
B: here do you want to hold him while they do it?
A: yes please

Bryce passed a slightly settled Ryder over to me. I knew this wasn't going to last long. Shortly after the nurse walked back in.

RN: right so if you could just reveal his right leg for me

I did what she said as I took his sleeper off his legs.

RN: this will be very quick and let me tell you he will cry more out of shock then pain. This does have side affects which he will be very cranky and his leg will be sore to move.
A: ok he is ready

I watched her wipe his tiny little leg and then she stabbed the shot in, immediately the room filled with baby screams and it tore my heart to pieces.

RN: there we go all done •she said putting on a bandaid•
A: thank you

I lift Ryder up and place him on my shoulder a bop him up and down a bit whilst rubbing his back. Bryce signed some forms and then I got him dressed again and back into his car seat. Ryder was slightly crying but not as much as before.

Bryce POV//

We had just gotten home after Ryder's appointment and he was already really cranky. Addi was feeding him right now but I could see she was struggling since he kept unlatching and then would cry. I honestly felt so bad for him, the nurse wasn't very compassionate about giving him the shot, she just stabbed that needle into his slim little legs. Luckily it wasn't always going to be her, she was just here because Ryder's usual doctor was sick. That was the doctor addison and I both trusted a lot. She was Addison's midwife for all of our ultrasounds and when addi gave birth. I went to check on Addison to see if she had gotten Ryder to feed properly yet.

B: hey baby
A: hi •she said stressed•
B: still struggling?
A: I was but I think he's finally stopped now, I'm just burping him.
B: oh good, he seems so cranky
A: he is and he won't let me put him down, I really need to go to the bathroom to shower
B: here let me try?
A: ok but don't take it personally if he cries it's just... i don't know I guess he just wants mommy when he is sick
B: don't worry I won't and I can completely understand that he would want you

Addi left to go shower and I guess she was right, he really was a mommy's boy today because instantly he started crying when he got passed to me. I placed him over my shoulder and attempted to burp him by patting his back but he really wasn't having any of it.

B: sh sh bubs mommy will be back soon I promise.

I kept rocking him and rubbing his back until I felt his start to fall asleep I laid back on the couch and before I knew it I was asleep as well.

Addison POV//

I went to the living room after my shower and I saw Bryce and Ryder asleep on the couch they looked so cute and I knew these moments I needed to hold onto for ever so I took a pic and posted it on insta.
