Chapter 16

Archer and his friends sat around their small fold-out camper table, looking at a map of the town.

Archer pulled out a thick blue pen and circled all the places that were written on the sheet Lucas had given them.

“So the ones in blue are his regular dealing places that anyone can go to,” said Archer, putting the pen down. “As we find out other bits of information, we’ll use different colours to identify each type of place.”

“Sounds like a plan to me,” said Alex.

                                                                    ***

Lucas stood outside Marian’s room, hoping no one would come near the room.

“Lucas, I need to bring this in to Marian,” said one of Lachlan’s men, walking up to him with a plate of food.

“Why?” Lucas asked.

“Lachlan rang and said she needed to eat something, he didn’t want her starving herself.”

“Oh okay, I’ll bring it in to her,” said Lucas, taking the plate off him and walking into the room, being sure to shut the door behind him.

“Make sure she eats it!” called the man from the other side of the door.

Lucas looked down at the food; someone had to eat it.

He sighed and walked down over to the bed, sitting down and taking a bite of the food.

                                                                    ***

Marian had just reached the edge of the forest, wondering if she’d have enough energy to fight Lachlan.

She looked behind her shoulder and continued to run, hoping she would find Archer.

She ran in a straight line, trying to remember which way to go.

                                                                    ***

“So what are we going to do now?” asked Seth.

Tyler laughed.

“Archer should know, I mean it’s his-”

“Shhh,” muttered Archer, putting his hand up for silence.

They all looked at each other, wondering what was wrong.

They heard a snap of a branch and they were up in a heartbeat.

Seth and Alex took out their guns and aimed it at the trees.

To their surprise, Marian came stumbling out of the trees.

She was panting and was out of breath.

Archer rushed over to her and held onto her.

He pulled off her mask and scarf, looking at her closely.

“Is everything okay?” he asked worriedly.

Marian took in a few more gulps of air and replied, “Yes and no. Lachlan’s gone out for the day and I found out where he might be headed.”

Archer nodded, helping her over to the table, where the map was spread out.

“One of these locations?” he asked, pointing at the map.
