HAYDON
"What the fuck is taking them so long. It's just a play, for god's sake", I say utterly and completely exasperated.
"What did I just hear? Haydon Flynn cussing? The earth is probably flat now", Laura snorts.
"Hey, I'm just human", I say, throwing her a dirty look.
I am sitting with Laura in the school auditorium along with others to watch the annual Halloween school play. I mean, which school organises a play for Halloween? It's so lame.
"We have successfully established that the school play is lame. Now, stop muttering that under your breath. Even I'm annoyed", Laura says.
I was saying that aloud? I'm probably going mad.
Plays suck. No offence to all the people who like plays or work in plays or something. They take a ridiculous amount of time, for one thing. I am a very cheerful person but I'm starting to lose my temper now.
"Haydon, I swear to God, if you don't stop fidgeting I'll kick your ass", Laura says.
"But why is this not ending? Are they doing this on purpose"?
"Yeah sure, they have an intense hatred towards you so the way they vent it out is by stretching out the school play", she looks irritated.
I curse them under my breath before staring at the stage.
Now, why are they dancing again?
Didn't they dance like half a minute ago?
God, I don't get plays.
It is one thing to bore the fuck out of you. But it's totally another to stop you from going somewhere you really want to. Say, to see what the girl you have a huge ass crush on is doing right now.
"What are you in a great hurry for", Laura asks.
"I- ummm I kinda want to see Demi. I had promised her that I would dress up for Halloween and I did and- umm so ", I stutter.
"That's romantic".
"It's bromantic or whatever the friend version of romantic is. Also me going to see her might have something do with the way she looked in that bodysuit rather than being a good friend or whatever"
"Perv", Laura says in a singsong voice.
"Oh please, I'm not a perv. I just want to see her you know, I don't even want her to see me or acknowledge me. It is true that I constantly think about kissing her but I don't do anything that makes her uncomfortable. I'm okay with anything she gives me as long as she's there in my life", I say.
"God, you guys should date already. Have you considered telling her all this?".
Oh, how I wish.
"Hell no. I don't wanna get killed"
"If you don't try-", she begins.
"She doesn't like me that way. She just wants to be friends", I cut her off.
"She might change her mind. You are a very likeable person, Haydon", she smiles.
"She's stubborn".
"Looks like you are stubborn too".
"What do you mean", I give her a sharp look.
"Nothing".
