A Fresh Start

Onyx's POV.
Monday afternoon

To draw flowers and animals on the bottom of a calculus worksheet I finished 20 minutes ago or be the first person to get up and turn it in..? I choose the drawing. Being smart has its perks of course but I'd do anything to not be the smartest student in the room in both of my classes. I'm always the example and I don't like the constant attention.
Since there are only 20 minutes left I decided I'd suck it up and be the first person to turn in the assignment. I move as silently as possible to the front of the classroom, hand my paper to the teacher, and return to my seat. As soon as my butt hits the seat I hear my teacher clear his voice.

"Okay, class y'all have about 20 minutes to finish your assignments. There will be no homework today so if you don't finish do it as homework. although you should have no problem finishing up today and I'm expecting to see all of your papers on my desk like Oynx's (thank you) before the end of class." he says loudly. Directing the "thank you" at me softly.

A few heads turn and glance at me as well as a glare or 2. I smile tightly and put my head down. Embarrassing. My friends are in this class but I'm not the talkative during class type so they sit with each other to work and chat. The bell rings soon after and I rush out the door and to my uncle's room.

"Hey unc" I whispered cause he was on the phone.

He waves and I take a seat in the very back corner of the room. I take my phone out and text Atalia. She had a doctor's appointment Sunday morning and work right after so, we haven't spoken since last night. she sends me a link to a website with the text "buy something pretty" and tells me to check my bank account. She sent me $500 and the link leads to a kink website. I smile to myself and bookmark it for later. I send her a thank you text and tell her I'll call her when I get home later.

"Hey y'all" I wave at my approaching friend group.

"Hey boo," Lana says kissing my forehead and handing me my lunch.

"Thank you sister," I say.

"You're welcome. It's grilled chicken, potatoes, and broccoli," she smirks

"My favorite!" I smiled at her, bouncing in my seat and open my lunch.

"I swear you jus like a lil kid O," Trey says

"Maybe that's why they love you down there in the childcare room," Zamir says

"At least I'm a cool kid," I say to Trey and laugh.

"Lame ass," Mimi said laughing.

"I'm not lame. Y'all just do too much" I said finishing my broccoli

"Now don't say y'all, that's them," Armani said

"Wait, cause if anything it's you," Milani said

"Bye as fuck it's all of y'all annoying ass whores" Lana said rolling her eyes.

"What Lana said" I giggled and put the rest of my lunch in my bag for later.

  There are about 20 minutes left in lunch so I open the website Atalia sent me. I add 3 play collars, 2 pairs of kitten ears and matching tails, a couple of lingerie sets, and finally a couple of binkies.
  The bell rang at the same time I clicked checkout so I locked my phone and made my way to my next class. I'll resume my order later, I might even ask Tali her opinion. I'm the first person to get to my next class so I find my seat and open safari. I feel like I should buy Atalia something now even though I'm sure this is her repaying me for the other gifts I got her. She loved them I'm very proud of myself. I find a really nice short gold chain that needs a key to be taken off and I order it. it cost $275 but it was totally worth it.

As I wait for the bell to ring I scroll through my socials. I have a bit of a following and I occasionally sell my art and handmade jewelry. I respond to a couple of potential clients and lock my phone as the bell rings. class is over in what seems like minutes today and now I'm heading to the childcare room.

"Good morning Mia, hi kiddos," I say as I walk into the room setting my bag down and washing my hands as I ask about their days.

After I interact with the kids for a few minutes I grab my bag and head to the backroom to find Mia. When I walk in she's sitting down feeding Tiana.

"Hey Onyx, wanna feed her?" she asks standing up.

I nod quickly and take a seat holding my arms out. I cradle her gently swaying so she'll settle.

"You're so good with her. She has an appointment in about 5-10 minutes so, she'll be leaving. Since a couple of kids aren't here today you're free to go if you'd like," she said looking at her watch and glancing out the door.

"Okay thank you, I'll probably be leaving shortly after her then." I smiled and looked back down at the baby.

"Of course," she said dismissing herself quietly.

I sent Atalia a voice message on my apple watch asking her if she could pick me up in 10 minutes. About 5 minutes later while I was burping Tiana, well more like trying to keep her awake long enough to burp I got a text from Atalia telling me she'd be here soon. I smiled to myself hearing the baby burp and stood to get her ready to go. As I was walking back into the main room with her in her car seat I saw Mia talking to someone I didn't recognize.

"Onyx! this is Tiana's grandma she's picking her up today"

"Okay nice to meet you, ma'am, she's been fed and burped. She's just a sleepy girl now" I said rubbing Tiana's cheek.

"You as well. Thank you, I hope you have a wonderful day" she smile and left.

"Bye Mia," I said grabbing my bag and heading for the door.

"Bye Onyx see you tomorrow!" she said already turning to care for a kid.

I made my way out of the building and sat on the steps waiting for Atalia.
