A Fresh Start

Atalia's POV

It's kind of awkward right now. Onyx just had a mini meltdown so she is really quiet and Solana and I have only seen each other a few times from when I first started hanging out with J. I'm kind of hungry so I'm gonna ask them if they want to go get something to eat.

"Y'all wanna stop and get some food?"

"Yesssss I could really eat right now," Solana said.

"Yeah sure," Onyx said.

"Where do y'all wanna go?" I want Ihop but figured I should ask them anyway.

"Wherever cool with me," Solana said shrugging.

"Onyx what do you want?" I asked cause I don't think she was gonna speak out on her own.

"Umm, I don't know. Ihop maybe?" She said while looking out the window.

"That's what I was thinking. I guess great minds think alike huh?" I said trying to get her to smile.

"Uh-huh seems like it." I got a small smile with that but at least it was something.

"O what's the matter sis? You're so quiet." Solana asked her.

"Oh um, nothing I'm fine."

"I don't believe it. Tell me what wrong bubs" Solana said.

"Okay. I had a mini meltdown in the car cause I wanted to be little but then again I didn't want to cause ya know public so I was pushing it down then like always I broke." Onyx was turned in her seat talking to Solana.

  I wish I knew that was the reason she was acting like that earlier I would have stopped teasing and tried to help. I feel really bad now. I should apologize to her.

"Hey um, Onyx. I'm sorry I didn't know that me babying and teasing you earlier was a bad thing. I was just tryna be cute and goofy. Next time I'll know better but again I'm sorry." I glanced at her a couple of times while speaking but I mainly kept my eyes on the road.

Solana looked back and forth between Onyx and me waiting for her to say something. After like a minute or so of us driving in silence and Onyx looking like she was about to speak then stopping Solana spoke up.

"Bitch just say sum already got her over here looking stupid and you blubbering like fish." She rolled her eyes then got on her phone.

"Atalia, it's not you're fault I was already kind of upset before getting in the car and I just wanted to be small but I'm not comfortable with doing it in public so I should have told you instead of lashing out and then breaking down. I'm really sorry and I'm not mad at you I promise." Onyx said.

"It's okay boo I understand. I'll remember and next time I'll help instead of picking with you Okay?" She smiled at me and we continued our drive.

We pulled up at ihop and Solana jumped out yelling that she had to pee in the process. I turned to look at Onyx and she was looking down fiddling with her fingers.

"What's the matter ma?" I asked tapping her shoulder.

"I still feel really small but I wanna go in and eat but I don't wanna be judged." She shrugged looking up at me.

"How small is really small?"

"2"

"Well, I can work with that." I grabbed my keys wallet and got out of the car.

I walked to her door and opened it.

"Cmon boo you can do it." I grabbed her hands and pulled her to me.

"I'm too little to go in there. Peoples gonna look at me funny and I don't wannaaa" she whines.

"Nobody's gonna look say or do anything while I'm with you. You could be as little as you want in public while I'm around. You're safe little one. I promise." I told her while holding her to my chest.

"Are you sure? Cause I really wanna but I'm scared." Onyx whispers into my chest.

"Yes, I'm sure. Now, cmon I'm hungry." I said giggling and pulling her behind me.

We walked in Onyx gripped my hand tighter and scooted closer to me. I pulled my hand away and she quietly whined until I wrapped my arm around her waist and locked my fingers with hers. I felt her relax against me and then looked around for Solana. She was standing in the corner looking down at her phone. I called her over and we walked up to the counter.

"Booth for 3, please. Oh, and can I get a kids menu please." I said watching the woman's face for a negative reaction but one never came.

"No problem right this way. Here are your menus and I'll be back in a couple of minutes to get your drink and/or food order." She smiled and walked off.

"Yooo what took y'all asses so long I was just standing there in the corner looking goofy," Solana said.

"My bad someone needed a little bit of encouragement to come inside," I said glancing at Onyx.

"Oh okay is she cool?" Solana said also glancing at her.

"Y'all do know that while I am little right now I'm still here and can still hear you right?" Onyx said rolling her eyes.

"Oh shush. Do you know what you want?" I asked Onyx.

"Yessss I want chicken and waffles and some potatoes and milk and fruit. Ohh and can I please have some cake afterward." She ranted looking at my menu.

"That's a lot. Are you gonna eat it all?"

"Mmhmm imma eat it alllll" she grinned.

"Okay I guess so but I'm not ordering the cake until everything else is gone. Solana, what are you getting?"

"Umm, I was thinking just some eggs bacon and pancakes. Small normal breakfast. You?" She said.

"Waffles, bacon, eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, and a side of fruit," I said closing my menu.

"Damn, sis yo lil ass gone eat all that?" Lana said laughing.

"Hell Yeah boi I be eating," I said cracking up.

Here comes the waitress. Solana ordered her food. I ordered mine and when I looked to Onyx to order for her self she was to busy coloring on the kids' menu. So I ordered for her cause I remembered what she wanted. After a minute or two she brought out our drinks and we talked while we waited. Well, Solana and I talked Onyx was to busy coloring.
