A Fresh Start

  I was on my way to get my mom from work and then we would get the girls together. The girls get off school at 2:30 so I only had 30 minutes to get my mom and get to the school so I wasn't late picking them up. I pulled up at my moms' job and texted her.

Mom, I'm outside.

Okay, baby, I'm On my way!

  My mom got in the car put her stuff in the back and then smiled at me.

"We really need to get a third car so I don't have to Uber to work every day. Yo daddy got a car and you gotta car. J need a car and look at me steady taking a Uber!" She ranted

"Momma we got time. We just now settling into the house I've had this car since y'all let me live alone and daddy got his car for free" I told her tryna get her to calm a little bit.

"You right boo in about a month or so we'll be able to get me and yo brother a car." She took a deep breath and then just look at the road until we got to the girls' school.

Sometimes this woman drives me batshit crazy. I sighed and we stepped out the car. When we got to the door some old white woman held it open I smiled and my mom thanked her.

"No problem babies and might I just say your skin is beautiful darling." She smiled and walked away.

I don't know if she was talking to me or my mom but for some reason that made me really happy. I walked up to the window with my mom and told them the girls names and showed her my Id. She pressed a button and the doors opened. We walked to their classroom and stood at the door. Lavender looked over first and then ran over.

"Mommy!!! ... SISSY YOU TOO?" She was so excited to see us it melts my heart.

"Raven, mommy and sissy are here!" Indigo said while pulling raven behind her.

We all got hugs and my mom and the girls walked in front of me. As we were walking the same woman from this morning walked over to talk to my mother.

"Oh my gosh!! Your children are so beautiful. These are your children right?" She asked.

"Oh of course and thank you." My mom replied all giddy.

"I can't believe earlier this morning that I thought these precious lil angels came from her. It makes far more sense that you'd be their mom."

"While I appreciate the compliment I would also like to ask why it would be so hard for my beautiful dark skin baby to make these beautiful lighter skin babies. And also why you are mentioning my daughter in that tone of voice?" My mom snapped.

"Oh me I didn't mean to offend anyone but you must hear me out-" she started.

"Oh me nothing no I'd appreciate if you'd leave me and mines be thank you very much and you knew exactly what you were doing when you said what you said. Cmon now girls." My mom said while walking away.

"Momma that ladies mean." Indigo pouted.

"I know baby. I know." My mom said.
