It is Friday evening and Kate is at my house. This has happened more than once in recent months. She now babysits Josh more often. The best part is that we end the night with a movie. I really don't feel like leaving tonight. I'd much rather stay home with Kate, but of course I can't tell her that. I wake up from my thoughts when I hear Kate's voice. I didn't hear what she said. "Uhm.... What?". "Are you all right?" I give her a little nod. "Sorry, but it doesn't look like that." If only she knew how well I’m doing. "Yes everything is going really well. I was just thinking. Would you mind getting Josh ready for bed? I just need to call someone." I really need some advice from my sister. "Little monkey, let's go brush your teeth." I shake my head laughing when I hear Kate say that. "How do you manage to call him that? If I give him a nickname or call him little monkey, he gets angry". Kate laughs. "Yeah, I'm just special." I want to tell her that she is indeed very special, but luckily I change my mind just in time. Katte looks at me questioningly. So she realized that I wanted to say something, but luckily Josh saves me again. He takes Kate's hand and takes her to the bathroom.

"Han help me". I say as soon as Hannah picks up the phone. "What can I do for you?". "What should I do? I don't feel like going out tonight." I hear Hannah laughing. "Then you stay at home. The babysitter will probably also like it if you stay at home". I sigh. "What if she is not waiting for that and what should I say. If I say I stay at home, she might want to leave right away". I’m being laughed at. "After the stories you’ve told me, she’ll stay. So don't be so insecure and have a nice evening". Hannah gives me some more courage and then I just have to cancel my best friend. "Hey Jolien. Sorry to call now, but I'm not coming tonight". "No babysitter?". I can hear the disappointment in her voice. "Uhm yeah, something like that. Sorry I didn't call sooner." "Sounds like you do have a babysitter." I sigh. "Yes the babysitter is here, but...". "But what? If you don't feel like it, you can just say it." She sound a bit angry on the other side off the phone. "Jolien it’s not it. That nice one is here. Okay? So I better stay home for a movie date." Now I hear a laugh through the phone. "Oooo. Then say that right away. Have fun." "Thank you. I will call sooner next time. Have fun too."

When I'm done with the phone calls I walk to the bathroom, but there is no one to be seen. When I get to Josh's bedroom I get a warm feeling inside. Josh is already in his bed and Kate is sitting on the edge of the bed next to him. She has already started reading him a story. It's beautiful to see. "Sorry I heard you were still on the phone, so thought I'd start reading." I'm shocked when Kate says that. "Have you heard...". Kate shakes her head before I can finish my sentence. I hope that is the case. I sit on the other side of Josh. "Go on with what you were doing. Don't let me distract you." I can't take my eyes off her. I don't know if it's because of that or if it's something else, but reading is suddenly a lot more difficult for her. It's cute to see her like this. "Give it her. I'll read those last two pages." I decide to put her out of her misery after all and take over the reading book from her. When I start to read, Kate leans a little back against the wall and closes her eyes. I enjoy the view. "Just a little while and Kate will fall asleep before you." I whisper in Josh's ear. He looks at Kate for a moment and he smiles. Not much later I have finished the story and I follow Kate to the living room.

"Uhm shouldn't you be getting ready? You're already running late". Now it comes. I get a little nervouse. I shake my head and Kate looks at me questioningly. "I'm staying home tonight". Kate continues to look at me questioningly. "Uhm okay. Didn't you meet up with your friends and what am I doing here then?". I don't really know what to say. I don't want make her feel uncomfortable.I sit on the couch and can't look at her. "Just called that I'm not coming. Said I'm having a movie night with the babysitter. Or don't you feel like it?". I'm afraid of her reaction. She comes and sits next to me. "I have no problem with that. Is a lot more fun than just sitting here, but are you sure everything is going well?". Kate asks concerned. Hard to tell her she's the reason for my behavior now. "Yeah I'm fine. I'm just a bit tired. So just listened to my sister's advice to stay home." "Shall I go home then. So that you can have a quiet evening and go to bed on time." Shit I should have said it differently. "No, no. I didn't mean it that way. I would like you to stay. So would you please stay?" Kate just nods with a smile and doesn't say anything else. In any case, I'm glad she wants to stay.

While we watching the film I can only imagine that I want Kate closer to me, but of course it is difficult for me to say that. I’ll just grab a blanket. "Sorry I only have one. If you want you can join in." Kate seems to shake her head a bit nervously. "You have to know for yourself. Watching a movie under a blanket on the couch is the best thing there is. If you change your mind, the offer remains." I try to look at Kate as sweetly as possible. She looks at me for a moment and then quickly looks away, shaking her head. I'm still bummed that my plan failed. "Is your offer still valid?". I’m happy if she asks after half an hour and raise the blanket. "Of course". A bit unsure, Kate comes and sits next to me. Not long after, she snuggles up against me. I put my arm around her and her head rests against my shoulder. "Okay I have to admit, you're right. This is the best thing there is". I don't say anything to it, so Kate looks up for a moment. She must be able to see from my face what I think of this. I enjoy this to the fullest and I think Kate likes it too.

After a few movies, it's time for Kate to go home. I would have liked to have kept her with me longer, but I'm already very happy with this evening. "Have a nice weekend and see you on Monday". Kate says when we stand at the front door. "Yes you too and see you on Monday. Thanks for tonight. I really needed this". I shouldn't have said it like that, but luckily Kate already seems to know me well and fortunately doesn't go into it any further. "You're welcome. I enjoyed it very much". With that, Kate leaves my apartment.
