-Lucas' P.O.V-
I close the door behind me and find Kyle pacing up and down the hallway.
"He did something to him," he mumbles to himself. "There's no way he likes him of his own volition."
"Kyle," I try to get his attention.
"He's a...a hooligan! He...he probably never washes his hands before a meal...God, who knows where those hands have been..."
"Kyle!" I say louder making him stop. "Kaydan's fine, isn't he?"
"Yeah...for now."
I slowly shake my head. "I'm pretty sure he's made a good decision."
"By dating that...that...thing?"
"You would've said that about any person he
dated!" "Nuh-uh!"
I narrow my eyes at him.
"That's not the point!"
"I think you should trust Christian until you find a reason not to."
"I already have plenty!"
"Name one."
He searches his head. "He...he...lied about dating you!"
"In all fairness I started the lie. He just went along with it for Kaydan's sake."
He looks away from me. "...That was a pretty stupid lie..."
"I didn't have anything else!"
"...You even kissed him..." he whispers.
"Technically he kissed me," I correct.
"Yeah, but you didn't push him away!"
"Again, for Kaydan's sake!"
"...You didn't look like you hated it..."
"It's not like I asked for him to kiss me Kyle," I partially laugh.
He clenches his fists. "I know."
...Geez...
I sigh and walk over to him then pinch his nose. "Stop looking so glum."
"I'mb not glumb!" He screams.
I chuckle and let go of his nose. "Good."
His cheeks turn the slightest shade of red as he punches my chest. "Stop doing that!"
"Doing what?"
"Laughing at me!" He gives me a serious look, border lining anger.
I fold my arms over my chest and exhale deeply. "You know it's hard to take you seriously when you do cute things like that, right?"
He's practically fuming now. "I-I am not-"
"What's going on here?" A voice asks entering the hall from the stairs.
I look over to see an older man wearing
black slacks and a white button up shirt. He has brown hair and hazel eyes, and looks as if he is in his mid-thirties. He also has a tried gleam in his eyes, which is the characteristic of a hard working man.
"Who are-"
"Jonathan?" Kyle questions interrupting me. "Why are you here?"
"I found someone huddled outside my hotel room in the rain," he answers as Kaleb appears behind him.
"Kaleb, why weren't you watching Kaydan?" Kyle growls.
"I went for a walk," he answers simply. "I would've told you, but you took my phone."
"Which is also why he told me that he couldn't warn me before hand about coming over.
Kyle reluctantly reaches into his pocket and pulls out Kaleb's phone, then hands it over.
"Thank you!" He hums.
"I also wanted to let you know we'll be leaving tomorrow," Jonathan continues.
"Tomorrow?" Kyle exclaims.
"Yes, is there a problem with that?"
He instantly looks to his feet. "...No...I guess there's not."
"Good. Get your stuff together. I'll pick you guys up around 5 in the morning," he turns to Kaleb. "Next time you hear a storm coming go back home, okay?"
"You were closest," he argues.
"Yes, but you shouldn't even have been walking around my part of town anyway."
"I just wanted to see you," he whispers.
Jonathan rubs his forehead and leans down to him responding, "We'll talk about this later, alright?"
Kaleb nods slowly as Jonathan stands back up.
I make solid eye contact with him and he wavers slightly. I look back to Kyle, who seems to be completely oblivious to the whole situation.
What the...
"I better get going then," he breathes backing away.
"Can't you stay for lunch?" Kaleb pleads.
He shakes his head. "I need to call everyone and let them know the schedule for next week."
I lightly tap the door behind me.
"I'm sure you can stay," Kyle hops in, "I was planning on making lunch."
I knock a bit harder.
"Trust me, it's better I-"
He's stopped by Kaydan opening the door completely flushed. "H-Hello. P-Please come in," he stammers stepping to the side.
I wait for Kyle, Kaleb, and Jonathan to pass before I walk over to him. "Is everything alright?"
"Wh-Why would it not be?" He asks.
I narrow my eyes at him as I walk into the living room and sit on the floor by Kyle. Kaleb is sitting on the floor next to Jonathan, and Kaydan is standing by the kitchen.
"I-Is anyone thirsty?" He questions. "I love water. I'll bring us some water!"
In that instant Christian reenters the room. He's wearing my favorite sweats and an old band shirt of mine. Not to mention he's also wearing the biggest grin I've ever seen.
"Well isn't this just adorable?" he says walking over to us. He glances between Kyle and me, then Jonathan and Kaleb.
...What did I do to deserve this?
-Kaydan's P.O.V-
I'm too frazzled to really notice my surroundings. I grab six cups and fill them all with ice and water. When I turn around to enter the living room I hit my hip on the counter and drop all of the cups, landing with a heavy thump. Goosebumps find their way to my arms as the cold water coats me.
Shit.
Within an instant Christian is at the entrance. "Are you alright?" he asks kneeling and extending a hand to me.
I nod and take his hand, allowing him to hoist me up.
"Go sit in the living room with everyone else. I'll bring the water," he finishes grabbing a dry rag off of the counter.
"Are you sure?" I question watching him get on his knees to wipe the floor.
He nods.
"O-Okay," I smile as I enter the living room. I've calmed down since the...incident, and am able to asses the situation much better now.
Since when did Jon get here?
"Hey Jon," I say finally greeting him before sitting on the floor.
He sighs deeply. "How many times do I have to tell you to call me Jonathan?"
"Sorry Jon," I grin.
"Are you okay Kaydan?" Kyle asks staring at me intently.
"I'm fine," I answer looking over to him. "Christian has it under control."
He frowns slightly as Christian returns with all of the drinks.
He grabbed my nice glasses...
He hands Luke, Kaleb, Jon, and me ours, then sets Kyle's on the table.
"Thank you," I say as he walks straight into my room without replying to me.
"I hate his attitude," Kyle spits.
I narrow my eyes at him. "Are you seriously going to do this now?" I ask implying the people around us.
"He totally just brushed you-"
Christian comes back with a dry towel and places it on top of my head then begins to furiously rub my hair.
My body sways violently as he drys it until I bring my hands up to stop him slightly laughing, "I'm dry, I'm dry!"
He drapes the towel over my shoulders and sits beside me answering, "You're welcome."
"Well aren't you guys close?" Kaleb speaks up sipping his water.
"They're dating now," Kyle says bitterly.
"About time," he says with a grin. "Watching you guys was killing me! I'm glad you can finally be open about your feelings," he mumbles the last part looking down at his glass.
Jon clears his throat bringing my attention to him. "C-Congratulations Kaydan," he starts formally holding out his glass.
Luke follows wearing a dumb smirk, and Kaleb holds his up as well.
"No offence to you Jon, but you guys are idiots," I try not to laugh.
"To Kaydan and Christian!" Luke yells.
"To Chraydan!" Kaleb exclaims as well.
"H-Hear, hear?" Jon hesitantly agrees.
I peek over at Christian and catch the tiniest of smiles of his face.
If he doesn't mind, I guess it's-
"Why are you guys so ready to accept this?" Kyle shouts silencing them.
"Kyle-" Luke tries.
"No, I'm serious!" He continues. "Christian, what makes you think you're qualified to take care of Kaydan? What job do you have?"
"I don't have one," he answers.
I glare daggers at Kyle.
"Great start. When are you going to get one?"
"When I graduate."
Kyle pauses. "When you graduate? What does that mean?"
"Once I finish high school-"
"Wait, wait, wait. High school? How old are you exactly?"
"Seventeen."
Kyle's mouth drops. "You've got to be fucking joking me."
"You're seventeen?" Kaleb questions.
Christian nods becoming slightly flustered.
Kaleb nods slowly. "That's not too bad."
"Guys," Luke speaks up, "you probably shouldn't-"
"Not too bad?" Kyle screams. "There is no way in HELL I will allow Kaydan too date someone that young!"
"What's the problem with that?" Kaleb counters becoming slightly defensive.
"You seriously don't see a problem?" Kyle crazily chuckles.
Christian looks down to his hands and I can see his jaw clenched from the sides. His muscles are also slightly tensed.
"Leave," I state holding back the venom in my words.
Everyone quiets down and looks at me.
"All of you. Get out," I finish looking directly and Kyle.
He jumps slightly standing up. "K-Kaydan-"
"Now," I growl.
He and everyone else stand up and make their way to the hallway outside of my door.
I take a deep breath as I follow them. "Jon-"
"Jonathan," he corrects cutting in.
"-Jon, could you look after Kaleb one last time?"
"Sure," he says as exhaling.
"Luke, I should be at work tomorrow," I continue turning to him.
"Gotcha," he winks with a smile.
I turn to enter back inside until Kyle stops me asking, "Wh-Where am I suppose to go?"
"You can sleep in a cardboard box underneath a bridge for all I care," I slam the door and lock it. I stand still with my back pressed against the door until I hear footsteps shuffle away down the stairs along with muffled voices trying to pierce through the walls. I move back over to Christian and sit beside him.
"What did you do that for?" he questions.
"They were upsetting you," I answer leaning against his shoulder.
"So?"
"So, I didn't like it."
"Being mad isn't your character," he breathes.
"It worked didn't it?"
"I guess."
I enjoy the quiet that surrounds us shortly afterwards. His breathing is in tune with mine and he soon lays his head on top of mine.
At least a minute passes before he says, "Your hair is damp."
"You're the one that did the poor drying job!" "Shut up," he mumbles.
I can hear the smile in his voice.
I'm glad he's starting to feel a little better.
"Ignore my brother," I begin, "he's having trouble with this whole situation, and I don't want him to make you upset all the time."
"Kaleb was fine with it."
"I meant Kyle."
"O-Oh, you mean you have s-second brother?" He tries.
"I don't mean ignore him completely!"
I feel his body jolt quickly, indicating him laughing.
I smile and my cheeks start to hurt. "So what would you like to do now?"
"It's more like who-"
I punch his arm.
Maybe he's a bit too happy.
"How about I finally get lunch started?" He proposes.
I didn't realize how hungry I was until that moment. "That would be great."
He takes a deep breath and stands up separating us.
I inwardly groan at the distance put between us and hug my legs close to me to make up for the lack of contact.
He holds his hand out to me.
I take it and he pulls me into him, wrapping his arms around my waist. "Now, would you like to help me in the kitchen or wait on the couch?"
I rest my head on his shoulder. "I'm kind of tired, but I can help."
He kisses my cheek and hugs me tightly. "Rest on the couch."
"...I want a grilled cheese," I whisper sheepishly.
"I'll make you two."
"Yay," I continue in the same tone.
He pats my back then release me, and I trot over to the couch. I lay across it and watch him grab the remote.
He turns of the TV and Pride and Prejudice is on. "Lucas told me this was a good movie."
I close my eyes and curse Luke.
When I open them again Christian walks back over to me. "Need anything else before I make your food?"
I shake my head.
"I'll be right back."
"...Kay." I close my eyes again and listen to the dialog of Darcy arguing with Elizabeth.
When watching it the second time, you can clearly hear the affection they carry for each other hidden in their exchanging of words.
I guess he really is the Darcy to my Elizabeth...
