-Jasper's P.O.V-
I peek over my shoulder and see Luke and Kyle disappear into the crowd.
To think I'll have to see him again in almost 4 hours...
"What kind of pretzel are you going to get?" Kaleb asks excited.
"I'm here for you, you know."
"Yeah, but we can at lest share one!"
"I like cinnamon sugar," I answer truthfully. "I like original."
"Well then... this is a predicament," I sigh.
"Not necessarily," he smiles. "Excuse me miss, can we get an original pretzel, but could you put butter on it, then rub it in the cinnamon sugar powder?"
She stares at him puzzled. "I mean...is that what you want?"
"Yes ma'am!"
She does what he asks, and I pull out my wallet.
"I'll pay for it," Kaleb argues.
"That's alright," I hand her my card.
Kaleb takes it out of my hand before she can take it. "I said I got it."
"Kaleb-"
"Jasper," he mocks.
"I'll pay for it," A new voice enters, handing the lady a twenty dollar bill. "Keep the change."
"Thank you very much!" She exclaims opening the register and collecting her tip.
"You are coming with me," he continues grabbing Kaleb by the arm and dragging him to the side.
"Wait a minute," I call stopping him. "Who do you think you are?"
"I'm Jonathan Lloyd. Kaleb's manager," he turns towards my fully.
He seemed to be in his late twenties or early thirties. He had hazel brown eyes and chocolate brown hair. He was also wearing an all black suit with a white button up underneath.
I spare a glance at Kaleb, and he looks like his mood was completely ruined. "Are you the reason Kaleb was crying yesterday?" I question mildly upset.
He looks at Kaleb. "You were crying? I told you that crying would irritate your eyes!"
"I wasn't!" Kaleb rebuttals slightly annoyed.
Jonathan takes a deep breath. "Kaleb, Chi diavolo è quel ragazzo comunque (Who the hell is that guy anyway)?"
"Questo 'ragazzo' è denominata Jasper ('This guy is called Jasper)," I reply not taking my eyes off of him.
He shows me a tense smile. "Cheeky. Look, can I just be honest with you? I don't like you. At all."
"Jon-" Kaleb steps in.
I hold my hand up to silence him. "That's just fine. I was about to say the same thing."
"That doesn't matter much, because Kaleb and I will be leaving shortly."
I narrow my eyes at him.
"Come on Kaleb," Jonathan states tugging at his arm.
"Can't I just stay for a few more minutes?" He fights.
"Our flight leaves in ten."
"I know, and I swear I will make it before it takes off!"
Jonathan lets him go and whispers something to him, which causes him to frown. He glares at me one last time before taking off.
I walk up to Kaleb and pat his back. "What was that about?"
He shakes his head and shows me a weak smile.
"Well, what do you want to do now?"
"Leave," he mutters.
"O-Oh...well, your plane is in the direction your manager just left in."
"I didn't mean the country. I mean here. The airport."
"The only way to leave is by boarding the plane."
'I know..."
"We can start walking over there when you finish your pretzel," I lead him over to a bench and we take a seat.
He stares at his pretzel for a good minute.
"Hey Kaleb," I begin.
"We don't have time for this?" He guesses standing up.
I follow his lead and nod. "We should probably get going." We start toward his gate and make it just in time to hear the announcer call for the last of the people boarding. I look over to the seats and see Kyle and Luke hugging, before returning my attention to Kaleb.
He was glancing at them as well before back looking at me. "I guess this is it," he laughs.
"Do or die," I agree. "You can always come back to see me."
"I guess I could," he smiles. "At least walk me up there!"
I shrug. "No harm in that."
This time he's the one who holds his elbow out to me. I smirk at him and take it in my arm.
"Shall we?"
"Only if you really want to," I breathe. "You know I really don't."
I lead him over to the woman and give her a smile that she easily returns. "This kid is boarding the plane to Europe."
-Kaydan's P.O.V-
I wake up in my bed. Christian's arms are wrapped around my torso and his face is inches away from mine. I close my eyes and remember the events that happened earlier.
That's right...Kyle left...and so did Kaleb...I should text them when they land.
I reopen my eyes and remove myself from his grasp.
I only have five minutes to start.
I rush into my kitchen and get everything I need, then get to work. Just as I predicted, Christian emerged from the room rubbing his eyes. "Why did you leave the bed?"
"Because you need to get ready. Go take a shower," I respond finishing up.
"...What?"
"Go!"
He stares at me a second longer then does as he's told. He walks into his apartment and doesn't come back until 20 minutes after. In that time I was able to shower and change myself, getting prepped for work. He comes back smelling fresher than ever. He is also wearing a red and white button up with black pants.
"You look nice," I exclaim exiting the kitchen.
"I wasn't sure what to wear since you never told me where we were going."
"Isn't it obvious?" I ask holding up a brown paper bag. "I'm taking you to school."
He gives me a blank expression. "Today?"
I nod furiously. "You said you'd go back, remember?"
"...Yeah."
"I'll even pick you up afterward! I'll ask Luke if I can get off early!"
His expression slightly brightens. "So I can spend more time with you?"
"Only if you finish your homework," I state grabbing the keys. "Let's go."
Christian follows me out of my door and I lock it behind us. We make a short stop at his place, so he can pick up his backpack and homework, then
leave the building and make our way to my car. "Hey Christian," I call grabbing his attention. "What would your least favorite sandwich be?"
"I'll eat whatever," he answers nonchalantly.
"I get that, but out of the entire sandwich family what would you prefer the least?" I unlock the car as we get to it.
"Probably peanut butter and jelly," he says getting in the car.
...Shit.
I quickly throw the brown bag in the back seat, and hop into the driver's. "Oh, really?"
"I don't like sweets, and that's a sweet sandwich."
I put the car in drive after buckling up and head in the direction of the street. I obviously have no idea where it is, so Christian directs me to it. It wasn't located terribly far, and to get to
here from work it was basically one turn to the right and a straight shot down for ten minutes. I pull up to the front of Rover High and put the car in park. There were kids everywhere. Just being here gave me chills and reminded me of when I used to attend high school.
Man, did I hate that...
I look back over to Christian and find him leaning over into the back seat. "...Did you lose something?"
He comes back to the front and his hair is a mess. I also notice that his shirt is one button off.
"Christian!"
"What? I was grabbing this," he holds up the brown paper bag containing the lunch I made him. He actually looked his age now.
I reach for it, but he pulls it out of my grasp. "Give it back!"
"You made it for me, didn't you?" "That was before!"
"Before what?"
"N-Nothing! Just give it here!"
"If you made it for me, I will eat it and like it," he opens the car door and steps out. After he collects all of his things, he tries to rearrange his buttons from bottom up, and it clearly isn't working.
"For the love of-" I scooch over into his seat and fix his shirt for him. Once I'm done with that I reach up and mess with his hair to make it slightly more presentable. After I finish I straighten out his shirt once more for good measures and reach for his lunch one last time.
He holds it above his head, and I fall forward landing on his chest. "Oh, come on!" I push myself off of him, using his shoulders for support, and stop inches away from his face. "Fine. You win. Just don't get mad when you see what it is."
He smiles down at me. "I'm sure I'll love it."
I over exaggerate a sigh, and in response he closes the distance between us by planting a kiss on my lips. I quickly pull back. "Y-You can't do that here!"
"Why not?"
"PDA!"
"I need some form of motivation to get me through the day."
I move back into the driver's seat and start the car up again. "I-I'll be back at 3!"
"School gets out at 2:30."
"Then go join book club," I finish driving off. I peek up at him in my mirror, and he continues to stand in place looking me. A few seconds go by before he decides to head in. I watch him slowly make his way up the stairs that lead to the entrance. I bite my lip, then pull over to the side, and click my hazard lights on. I jump out of my car and rush after him. Once I'm steps away, I tackle his back and wrap my arms around his torso, causing him to stop in his tracks.
"Kaydan?" He asks puzzled.
"...I-I forgot to wish you luck..." I begin. "...So...g-good luck."
I feel his body shake as he laughs slightly. "Thanks."
I rush off before he could turn to look at me and jump back into my car. I flick the hazards off and hit the road. I follow the instructions Christian gave me, and made it to work by 9. I turn off my car and lock it, then check my phone. I got a text from Christian.
Like You Like You: Good luck at work today. :)
I shake my head as I enter through the doors.
I really need to change his contact name.
People have settled inside already, and things seem to be running quite smoothly.
"You look extremely happy," Sarah's voice calls, bringing me out of my trance.
"Hey," I say putting my phone away. "Where's Luke?"
She shrugs. "He said he'd be here over 10 minutes ago."
Odd...he's usually the first person in...
"Well, who all is here now?"
She brings out the roster and scans the page. "David isn't due till-"
David busts through the doors cutting her off, and looks at us both whispering slightly, "I'm here."
"-now," she continues as he heads toward the back, "Megan will be here in another hour, Simon isn't due till Saturday- cause his break ended- and Jasper should have been here an hour ago."
I nod slowly. "What the he-...heck is happening today?"
"Oh, Jasper texted me," David returns to the conversation. "He had to do something this morning, and he's on his way now."
"What did he have to do?" I question.
David gives me a blank stare. "...Yes. I have things to do, so I'm gunna, okay!" With that he disappears into the kitchen without saying another word.
I look back at Sarah and she shrugs.
In that moment Luke enters. He's got a smile so big it covers 75% of his face. "Bonjour (Good Morning)!"
"...What's up with you?" I ask a little afraid.
"Nothing. I just had the best waffles I've ever eaten in my whole entire life," he heads to the back.
"Where at?" I question, following him into the staff room. The staff room was about the size of my living room. It had a table in the center and black lockers against the wall. It was a pretty plain room to be honest.
"My house," he hums.
"Did you try a new recipe?"
He shakes his head.
"So you were watching one of your favorite movies?"
"The TV wasn't on."
I gasp aloud. "Since when do you ever have your TV off?"
"I was busy!"
"Doing what?"
"Eating!" He opens his locker.
I narrow my eyes at him as I grab my apron.
"Buongiorno (Good Morning)!" Jasper's voice calls joining us in the back.
What the-
"Bonjour," Luke replies staring him down.
"I know French too," Jasper smirks going to his locker. "That might work on Kaleb, but it won't work on me."
Kaleb? How does Jasper know-
"Damn it!" Luke groans.
I turn to stare at Luke in shock.
What happened to no cursing?
"Thanks for the breakfast by the way," Jasper continues.
"You had breakfast together?" I question.
"I'll send the chef your compliments!" Luke ignores me. "Also, why did it take you longer than me to get here?"
"First off, we were already at your house. Secondly, I live farther from here than-"
"I'm sorry, but can someone please tell me what the hell is going on here?" I finally ask, bringing them all to a stand still.
"...W-We should discuss this after work!" Luke declares closing his locker after tightening his bow tie.
"I agree with Luke," Jasper chimes in walking past me.
"But I was going to ask to leave early today!" I protest.
"That's a great idea! We should all leave early today!" Luke smiles hugely.
"Oh! Can we?" Jasper questions.
"No! No we can't! People have reserved times for today! We can't abandon our responsibilities!"
Jasper releases a deep sigh. "When you say it like that..."
"Fine," Luke states. "We'll all stay today. No one leaves until we close."
"Yes sir," Jasper pouts leaving the back area.
I frown at Luke. "I told Christian I'd pick him up from school today! You see, it's his first day back and-"
"That's too bad," he hands me my notepad and pen. "I'll see you out front."
I stare at his back as he leaves before shooting Christian a text.
