-Kaydan's P.O.V-
My eyes flutter open. I didn't even remember closing them.
Why is it so hot?
I turn to my side and see Christian asleep peacefully.
He was smiling.
I grin myself seeing him happy in his sleep for once. I reach up to touch his face, then spot a hickey on my wrist. I pinch his cheek.
So this is why you're smirking so hard, huh punk?
He winces and a quickly release him, bringing my wrist to my face. I study the mark. I rotate my wrist to find several more.
How did he even do this?
I place my mouth on the back of my hand and bite it.
Okay, ouch.
I pull it away and wipe it on my shirt.
I hear Christian catch his breath quickly. I glace up to see his face forced into a frown. "What's so funny?"
"Why are you biting your hand?" A small chuckle escapes his lips.
I punch his chest. I can tell it didn't do any damage given how close we are to each other.
"You can give me one if you want," he says.
"No thank you!" I sit up and check my phone.
It's 5 P.M. I also have a text from both of my brothers.
Not only is this day slow as crap, but I'm also screwed!
Kyle: Hey, I won't be home till late tonight. I'm sorry, we'll talk later. Please get some rest.
Kaleb: I heard about your hand. That kinda sucks! I hope it heals soon! See you later tonight!
Oh. Correction: not screwed yet.
I turn off the screen and look down at Christian. His arm is wrapped around my waist and his face is buried in his pillow. "I need to go take a shower."
"You don't need to," he states muffled by the pillows.
"Christian."
His back raises and falls dramatically as he moves his arm.
"Thank you," I stand up and head over to the bathroom. I flick on the lights and turn on the shower. I strip and jump in immediately. After washing my body and hair, which is not easy to do with one hand, I leap out and dry myself off. I glance up to see my reflection. My mouth falls slightly.
Oh my god...I look like a deformed leopard.
I run my hand down my neck and over the pinkish marks then look to my blush covered face. I wrap the towel around my chest and slowly open the door. I peek at the bed, and Christian is no where to be found. I open the door wider and see a stack of my clothes on the bed. I quickly scoop them up and run back into the bathroom. I slip into the jeans and put on the blue flannel he bought me for my birthday.
He would grab this shirt for me.
I exhale and look back into the mirror. "At least it matches the cast."
The only place visible now was my neck. I turn the sink on and grab the green toothbrush from the holder. I quickly brush my teeth, then walk down the stairs.
Christian is in the living room watching TV. He stands up as I hit the final step. "We can head out once I'm done." He goes up the stairs and into the bathroom. The water starts soon afterward.
In the middle of an episode of Drake and Josh, I feel my phone vibrate. I pull it out to see a text from Luke.
John Matthews: Bring Christian to my place.
I stare at the message confused.
...Why?
John Matthews: I planned a party for him.
That's...actually really nice. I'll see what I can do.
John Matthews: Judging by how you aren't pissed off at me for that, something happened between you guys earlier.
I'm ignoring you now.
John Matthews: I trust you to tell me later. Bye.
John Matthews: See ya soon!
He's lucky he's my friend...
-Christian's P.O.V-
My shower is interrupted by my phone ringing. I move the curtain and look at the screen. It's a call from Lucas. "Hello?"
"Hey, bring Kaydan to my house'," he says.
"For what purpose?"
"I'm throwing a surprise party for him."
I instantly remember Sarah saying something about that.
"Okay."
"...Hey..." he starts, "did you guys make up?" "Yes."
"...You guys have make up se-"
"Good bye Lucas," I finish hanging up. I felt clean enough so I jumped out of the shower. I finish my bathroom duties and put on some clothes before leaving. I stop by my closet and grab a scarf, then descend down the stairs. I toss it in Kaydan's face then head for the counter.
He wraps it around his neck before asking, "Can we head to Luke's'?"
He doesn't know, does he?
I turn to look at him. "What for?"
He avoids my eyes. "I promised I'd... cook for him to make up for my hand."
"Alright," I reply opening the door.
Works for me.
He follows me out to the stairs and we head for my car.
"I didn't think you'd be up for going," he finally says as we head out.
"What do you mean?"
"I thought you'd prefer to stay inside."
"I would," I answer truthfully, "but you want to go."
"We can stay-"
"We're going."
He stays silent after that.
We arrive in under eight minutes and I follow him to the door. He stands beside it.
"What?"
"My hand hurts," he squeaks.
"Use you're other hand," I argue.
"Th-That's the one that hurts," it comes out more like a question.
I stare at him. "Bull shit."
"Seriously!" He argues. "You open it!"
"Kaydan, open the door."
"I don't want to!"
"I'm not doing it."
"Christian!"
"Kaydan."
We share a look.
"Okay, okay...same time?"
"I'm not touching the handle."
"Have you ever heard of a compromise?"
"I'm not a fan."
"Both of you idiots come in now!" I hear Lucas' voice blast form behind the door.
"Kaydan won't open the door," I answer.
"For the love of-" Lucas grumbles, followed by heavy footsteps.
The door flies open and a small group of people are standing at the front. "Surprise!" They all yell.
There's a banner hanging over the kitchen that read, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTIAN AND KAYDAN". Other than that, there wasn't much changed. There was a white table cloth over his coffee table.
I look at Lucas. "What-"
"-is, why?" Kaydan cuts in. "You know I don't like surprises!"
"It's a shared surprise!" Lucas grins. "Plus this was also the day I allowed the guys to have their first day off. Megan and David couldn't make it though."
"Luke, didn't I tell you I-"
"What's with the stupid scarf? It's 79 degrees outside."
Kaydan freezes staring at him. "...Thanks for coming guys!"
I stop listening and scan the faces of everyone present. I see Sarah, newer guy, and the guy with black hair. "Why are you here?" I ask bitterly.
I thought I scared him off...
His look of amusement disappeared in an instant. He turns to Sarah and pulls her sleeve before pointing at me.
She looks over to me and smile wider. "Happy birthday, Christian!"
"Thanks," I respond, not taking my eyes off black hair.
Kaydan shoves my arm and whispers, "Be nice."
"Happy birthday," Jasper chimes in. "I'm Jasper, in case you forgot, and that guy is Simon."
"Hi," I say plainly.
He continues to glare
"You'll have to excuse him!" Jasper exclaims stepping in front of him. He's shy; doesn't really talk much. He usually masks it with a tough guy act."
I walk past Jasper and up to Simon. "What's the point in acting tough of you aren't?"
"Christian," Kaydan calls grabbing my attention. "Luke wants me to help with the food. Will you be alright?"
I nod and regretfully watch him leave. When I turn back to look at Simon he's sitting at the coffee table to the right. He rolled up his sleeve and placed his elbow on the table. I go over to where he is and sit opposite of him. I roll up my own sleeve and connect my hand with his. "Don't cry when I brake your arm."
He only grins in response.
"Come on guys," Sarah says grabbing our hands. "Let's be mature about this."
"Nothing like a little friendly competition," Jasper says pulling her back.
I can feel Simon's palm in mine. It has minor calluses, and aren't as soft as I thought they'd be. Seems like competition.
"I'll count you guys off," Jasper offers. He reaches out and traps our hands. "Three, two, one, go!" He finishes letting go.
I wait a while feeling Simon push my hand down. I actually have to try a little bit to stop him, but not much. I look at his face to see that he was genuinely trying. "You've never gotten into a real fight in all your life, have you?" I ask.
Not that I have either.
He's too focused on my hand to notice that I'm talking to him. I tighten my grip, stopping him in his tracks and slams his hand down, causing him to jump out of his chair.
I sigh.
He glares daggers at me.
"What?"
He sets his hand back up in the starting position.
"Again?"
He nods.
"You're joking, right?" He doesn't move.
I stand up and walk to the door. "I need some air." I close the door behind me and head in the same direction I did last time. It was a far walk, but it was worth it to be alone. After taking a few steps down the street, I hear the door open. I turn to see Simon. "What do you want?"
He holds up both of his hands made into fists.
"I'm not going to fight you," I groan.
I walks closer to me still holding his fists.
"Simon-"
He throws a punch at my face and I catch it with my right hand.
"-I'm not fighting you."
He frowns at me throwing his other one.
I catch that one too. "Stop."
He tries to pull his hands out of my grip, but I don't let him.
"Are we done now?"
He bares his teeth at me. "...F-Fuck y-you."
"So it talks," I sigh letting him go and folding my arms.
"Wh-What o-of i-it?"
Speech impediment maybe?
The door slams open revealing Kaydan. "What are you doing?" He asks angrily.
"He started it," I grumble.
Kaydan stares at me in absolute silence before heading over to Simon to ask him if he's okay.
"You are taking his side?"
"I'm not taking anyone's side."
"Yes you are!"
"Come inside," he sighs, "the food is ready."
I look from Simon to Kaydan.
"Please?" He tries.
I stuff my hands into my pockets and walk towards them.
We enter the room and branch off. Kaydan goes to help Luke with the plates and Simon follows me to sit on the floor.
"What do you want?" I semi-growl.
He doesn't say anything.
This again.
"Looks like someone has an admirer," Lucas hums bringing over a pizza.
Jasper laughs. "I was just thinking that!"
I look at Kaydan slightly showing my confusion.
"Simon seems quite attached to you," he says clearing it up for me.
I glare at him. "Go away."
He shakes his head.
I sigh frustrated. "I'm going to the bathroom." I stand up and walk to where Kaydan pulled me the last time I was here. I turn on the lights, now that I was able to, and finally get to see it.
There are pastel green towels hanging on the racks and a gray shower curtain hanging on the pole hinges. The toilet and sink are the stereotypical white color with two toothbrushes resting on top of the counter. One was obviously Kaydan's.
I stare at my reflection in the mirror.
I obviously don't belong here. These are Kaydan's friends. Lucas probably just invited me out of pity. I should head home.
I turn off the lights and head back into the room.
"Hey," Kaydan calls out to me, "We were just about to pick a movie on Netflix."
"All I'm saying is I wouldn't mind re-watching- "
"We are not watching Pride and Prejudice again!" Kaydan yells cutting Lucas off.
"I was just about to go home," I answer walking towards the door.
"Why?" Jasper asks. "The fun is just about to begin!"
"No thanks. You guys have fun." I give a final wave before stepping out the door.
