The class walked in and took their seats. I sat down beside Hermione, and Draco sat across from me with Crabbe. I didn't even look at him. Harry and Ron sat in front of them at the front of the classroom.
Then Professor Moody entered the room. Everyone went silent. Hermione stopped flicking through the pages of her book and stared at the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Even Malfoy decided to shut up.
"I'm Professor Moody-ex-auror. I'm here because Dumbledore asked me, end of story, goodbye the end! Any questions?" he said to the class.
His glass eye scanned each and every one of us, stopping at me and Harry a bit longer than the rest of then. Nobody dared move a muscle. Everone seemed too tense and scared.
"Now, can anyone tell me how many unforgivable curses there are?" Professor Moody said, turning to the blackboard and writing with some chalk.
"Three, sir." Hermione replied nervously.
"And they are so named?" Professor Moody asked, his back still turned to the class.
"Because they are unforgivable." Hermione answered again, her voice cracking a bit.
I looked over to her to she if she's OK.
"The Ministry says you're too young to see what these curses do." Professor Moody said, turning back to face us. "I say different!" He yelled suddenly. "You need to know what you're up against, and you need to be prepared!"
Then he picked up what looked like a big spider. I gasped and so did Ron. We both hate spiders, but what I felt was, this spider was horrified. It seemed to be trying to talk, but it was too scared. A great fear swept over me as I felt what the spider was feeling at the moment, and I started to worry.
"What curse shall we see first?" Professor Moody asked.
His eyes darted to Ron.
"Weasley! Stand!" he yelled at him.
Ron weakly got up to his feet, not knowing what else to do.
"Give us a curse." Moody whispered to him menacingly.
"Well, my Dad told me about the Imperious curse." Ron stammered back, looking really nervous.
"Oh yes, that one's quite nasty." Moody whispered to him again.
He then picked up the spider. Again, a great fear swept over me. Hermione didn't notice, but I was getting very worried now. What was going to happen? A the corner of my eye, I saw Draco staring at me. What?
I turned to him, and he just looked at me like he didn't know what to say and quickly looked back down at his book. The fear caught me again and I rested my head on my hand. I could feel sweat beading on my forehead.
"Imperio!" Moody yelled at the spider, holding his wand at it.
Suddenly, the spider fell under the Imperious curse, and did what the wand did. It was being controlled by the wand in Moody's hand. Lots of kids got a bit frightened as the spider was flung from person to person. After a while, they started to laugh, but I still felt that horrible fear.
"Hermione." I whispered to her.
She looked at me with a concerned expression. But then Professor Moody laughed and made us both look. The spider was hanging upside down on the window pane now.
"Done." Professor Moody said glumly.
He took the spider back with his wand.
"Now, we need the second curse." He said again. "Neville." he picked. "What's the next curse?"
Neville had to walk in front of the classroom.
"The Cruciatus curse." He said weakly.
He really didn't want to do this. I could feel the spider getting scared again. I felt beads of sweat forming on my forehead again, and I instantly sat straight in my chair.
"Crucio!" Moody yelled, pointing his wand at the spider.
Immediately, the spider started screeching and moving in a contorted way painfully. I felt so much pain and I could hear the spider- it was screaming! I started to cry. I could feel its pain and misery, and I just couldn't take it. Neither could Neville. He was barely watching. Hermione was looking away next to me.
I started to cry harder as more tears spilled down my cheeks. Draco turned in his seat and looked at me with surprise. I didn't care if he saw me crying. This was absolutely horrible!
"Stop it! Can't you see it's bothering it? STOP IT!" Hermione screamed beside me.
Professor Moody took the wand away and looked awkwardly at the class, clearing his throat. The spider stroked its body with its legs. I was still crying silently, covering my face half with my hands as tears leaked through and made a tiny puddle on the desk. Professor Moody took the spider and put it on our desk. I gasped as I cried. I watched the spider. I was still quite scared of them.
"Perhaps you'd like to tell us the last curse, Miss Granger." Professor Moody said to her.
Hermione shook her head, tears forming in her eyes.
"No?" Moody asked.
The spider muttered something painfully to me.
"Help me." it choked.
I took my hands away, revealing my teary wet soaked face and held my hands out to the spider, no matter how scared I was of spiders.
"Avada Kedavra!" Professor Moody pointed the wand and shouted.
The spider fell on its back and was killed. A huge black coldness swept over me, caging me inside it and filling me with the cold inside and out. I caught my breath as it made me go numb as more tears fell down my face. Everyone in the class was staring at us now, but I barely noticed. Professor Moody ignored my silent crying and turned to the rest of the class.
"The killing curse." he said in a dark voice. "There's only one person who's known to survive it. And he's sitting here in this room." He walked over to Harry as Hermione wiped a tear and put an arm around me.
I was shaking as I was crying. Draco was watching me still, looking shocked. I looked at him and saw that he had worry and concern in his eyes. Concern for me? I don't think so, and I don't care right now. I hid my face in my hands again and kept crying. Harry looked at Professor Moody, bewildered, and Ron was staring at his feet.
"Class dismissed." Moody said finally and left to the back room, leaving the students here.
The class filed out of the classroom whispering to each other, looking horrified. Some looked at me since I was still shaking and crying. Hermione was beside me, her arm around me. Harry and Ron came running to give me a hug and comfort me.
"Hannah, what's wrong?" Harry asked me.
"What happened?" Ron asked.
I tried to control my crying.
"The spider-it-it-" I broke off with a sob.
I still felt really cold and the feeling had grown to a dead coldness.
"Come on, let's take her to the common room." Harry said to Hermione and Ron, and they walked with me to the common room.
I looked over my shoulder, and I saw Draco staring at me, his face still shocked and concerned. More tears spilled from my eyes and I looked away. Ginny came running up to us with a bright face, an her expression changed when she saw me crying.
"Hannah!" she said.
She walked with us to the Gryffindor common room.
