That evening when I went back to the common room, Hermione was reading a book, and Harry was lying on the couch, hugging his dragon egg looking really sad and upset.

"What's up?" I asked him.

"Cho's already got a date for the ball." Harry mumbled back.

He got up to his sitting position with a sigh. I sat down next to him and put my arm around him, hugging him around his shoulders.

"That's OK, it's her loss." I said simply, giggling a bit, making Harry laugh too.

Then Ron came into the common room looking horrified. Ginny and some other Gryffindor girls were around him, helping him to walk.

"It's alright, it doesn't matter." Ginny kept telling him.

"What happened to you?" Harry and I said in unison.

Hermione looked up from her book while Ginny and the other girls helped Ron sit down.

"He just asked Fleur Delacour out." Ginny explained.

"What?!" Hermione said.

She, Harry and I gathered around him like everyone else did. We had no idea what to expect.

"What did she say?" Harry asked him.

"No, of course." Hermione said to him.

Then Ron shook his head.

"He said yes?!" Hermione gasped, covering her mouth.

"Wow." I mouthed beside her.

"Don't be stupid." Ron said to her "You know how I like the way she walks? Well, I just came up, and it all slipped out." He said in a whiny voice.

"Actually he sort of screamed at her. Quite scary." Ginny said in a awkward voice.

I looked up at her.

"What did you do?" I said, looking back at Ron.

"What else? I ran for it!" Ron said in a distressed voice, looking up at me for help.

He let out a deep sigh. I didn't really know what to say. I guess that was how Harry and Hermione felt too. Ginny was still fussing over Ron and telling him that it was nothing to worry about.
