"Alright Greenie," the darker boy says, startling me from my thoughts. "First things first, I'm Alby. I run things around here. You mess with me and it won't be good. Got it?" I nod. "Good. Now, we've got three rules here in the Glade. One, never harm another Glader, even if they started it. We aren't foolish children here; we're grown and responsible." He pauses, eyeing me. I nod, vaguely aware I am still holding the shovel.

"Looks like I already broke rule number one." I chuckle slightly, Alby chuckling along with me.

"That is an exception. We all understand being frightened when we first get here. But starting now, you will be punished." He pauses. "Alright, rule number two, do your part. That means no complaining. Good that?" I nod again, slightly confused by the language but able to piece it for myself. "Last but not least, never go out into the Maze. Only Runners are allowed to do that. Understand?" I nod, yet again.

"Um...one question?" I hesitate and he gives me the okay to continue. "Uh...my name?" He chuckles again, before composing himself with a stern look.

"Don't worry, it will come back to you eventually. They won't let you forget that. Now, no more questions until after the Tour." He starts to walk away, ready to show me around.

"Alby?" He stops, sighing then crossing his arms. He turns to face me.

"What?" he says harshly.

"How-why are we here? Like, is this a prison or something?" His face softens, then hardens again.

"We don't know. We all woke up here, just like you did. Memories wiped, no idea as to how we got here. We only remember our names." He turns away again. "Alright, let's get this shuck thing over with."

I follow Alby around the Glade, listening to him explain what everything is.

"Every week, supplies are sent up in the Box. Every month, a new Greenie. This month, that's you." He explains once I have seen everything. "Alright, go get settled in the Homestead." He tells me. "I'll see you at the bonfire." We stop in front of the Homestead.

"Good that. See you there." I say, walking into the Homestead. I can hear him quickly walking away as I make my way over to my hammock. I sit down, allowing myself to process everything.

"Hey, Greenie." I hear an accented voice say, startling me. Newt. Crossing my arms, I glare daggers at him. "Woah there," he chuckles, stepping back. "What's up with you?" I continue to glare.

"You interrupted me trying to process everything. Besides, didn't you learn your lesson after scaring me last time?" He laughs, making me glare even more before breaking into a smile.

"Sorry." He bursts into laughter. "I just wanted to check and see how you were settling in. I didn't get to do that after my near death experience earlier." This puts a small smile on my face and he gasps mockingly. "Did I just make Ms. Greenie laugh?" He smiles softly as another boy walks in. He is Asian with picture-perfect hair.

"Hey shank, I think I'm rubbing off on you. You're becoming sarcastic." The boy bursts into laughter. I try to hold back a smile as Newt fakes a scowl.

"Shut up Minho." Newt laughs. The boy, Minho, turns to me.

"Nice to meet you Greenie. I'm Minho. Stick with me and I'll show you a good time."

"Nice to meet you, Minho." I shake his hand politely. "Is there anywhere I can take a shower?" Newt smiles.

"Of course there is!" He chuckles. (He really likes chuckling huh?)

"Yeah, why do you think I always smell so good?" Minho asks, trying to pose like a model.

"Oh. You shower? I thought you rolled around in the mud with the pigs." I burst into laughter, feeling my muscles relax for the first time since I got here. It feels good to joke around. Minho stares at me, jaw dropping to the floor. Newt struggles to hold back a laugh, letting out a small snort.

"Did you just-I-how dare-Ugh! Whatever. Follow me." Still laughing, I follow Minho off to the far side of the Glade, towards the bathrooms. "Here you go shank. Enjoy." He walks away.

Stepping into the water, I feel the coolness of the water seep into my bones, sending a shiver through my spine. The coolness feels nice, compared to the warm air of the Glade. Quickly washing my hair and body, I allow the water to run over me before I turn it off. Pulling my clothes on, I use the towel to dry my damp hair and step out of the shower, only to be met with Newt and Minho standing out front.

"Care to explain why the two of you are standing outside my shower?" I ask, making them jump.

"Uh...the other Gladers were trying to get a look?" Newt replies, coming out as more of a question than a statement. I laugh.

"Well, let them look. Might be good for them to see something different." Minho lets out a snort.

"Probably isn't much there to see." He howls and Newt slaps him. I roll my eyes as Newt looks to me.

"Are you going to be warm enough in that?" He asks quietly, eyeing my tank top and shorts. Smiling, I nod.

"Yeah, thanks Newt. I should be fine." He smiles back as Minho clears his throat.

"Alright, I'll talk to you shanks later." He says, walking away. Newt shakes his head, watching as Minho walks away. I, on the other hand, make my way towards the Homestead, ready for a nap.

"Hey, Greenie," Newt calls. "Wait up!" Slowing down, I allow him to catch up. "Where are you going?" He pants.

"I need a nap. This is a lot to take in and if I learn anything else, my brain is going to explode." I reply, picking my pace back up.

"Oh." He pauses. "Do you need anything?" Before I can reply, I am interrupted by the sound of grinding metal.

"What in the world is that?" I screech, covering my ears with my hands. The sound stops.

"That was the the Door. They open in the morning and close at night." He chuckles, taking my hands off my ears. "You'll get used to it." Letting my hands drop to my sides, I let out a sigh and continue walking. "So, do you need anything?" I shake my head.

"No, I'm okay. Thank you, though." I assure him as we approach the Homestead. "Well, I guess I'll see you at dinner." I smile.

"Yeah, see you at dinner, Greenie." He nods as he smiles back widely. "Sweet dreams!" Smiling, he limps away and I make my way to my hammock, sleep slowly taking over.
