Sidebloggable Prompt: "Watching a Scary Movie"

Tumblr Prompt: https://otpprompts.tumblr.com/post/125786539336/your-otp-is-watching-a-horror-movie-person-a/amp

"Your OTP is watching a horror movie. Person A buries their face into person B's arm every time it gets too scary for them."

Setsuka checked her phone as she walked into the living room, wondering if her husband was going to come back soon like he said. Nikei had told her that he was just going out on a shopping run and would be back soon, but he had been out for nearly half an hour now.

As she sat down on the couch, she thankfully heard the sounds of the front door opening and someone coming in. "I'm back!" Nikei called from the door as he took off his coat and shoes, and Setsuka sighed in relief.

The two of them had initially decided to live together while they were dating as a product of circumstances: Setsuka had been banned from the billiards community for cheating, and the fine she had to pay with her new lack of income meant that she needed somewhere to stay; Nikei was a workaholic and needed someone to take care of him, and he needed support for the state of his mental health as well.

They continued living together as Setsuka went to college and became a private detective, and she noticed that Nikei was trusting her a little more over time. He let her drag him away from his work and into events that brought them closer, and they later decided to get married. The class showed up and gave their blessings to the new spouses.

They had been married for a few years now, and Setsuka made sure that Nikei took frequent breaks when he continued his journalism work. That's why she was putting on a movie for them to watch together tonight, so Nikei wouldn't stay up all night on an article.

Nikei sat down beside her and handed her a cold beer he got out from the fridge. "Thanks, Nik," Setsuka told him as she opened the can of beer, and she took a sip while he looked for the TV remote. "Oh, I already put the movie in. You just need to start it up," she quickly informed.

"Alright, got it," Nikei replied, and he picked up the remote. When he turned the television on and skipped past all the movie trailers and previews, it finally arrived at the main menu. Setsuka began to giggle as she watch the colour drain from his face. "You picked out a horror movie?"

"Aww, are you scared of horror movies, Nik?" she asked with a playful smile on her face. "If you want, we can watch a different movie, we've got plenty of them-"

"No, I'm not scared! Um, I mean..." Nikei lowered his voice when he realized he accidentally shouted. "Let's just watch the movie. You picked this out, so it should be fine, right?"

"It's alright, you can hold onto me if you get scared," the detective teased, wrapping an arm around the journalist as he blushed with a grumpy expression. She took the remote from her husband and began to play the movie.

They ended up watching a popular horror movie about a monstrous clown that lives in a sewer and eats children, with plenty of jumpscares and gore to make its viewers jump multiple times. Setsuka was a little rattled during the events of the movie, but Nikei moved closer to her over time until he was on her lap while they watched.

"O-Oh god, what the hell?!" Nikei whimpered, turning his head and trying to hide his face in her shoulder. The detective began to regret playing the scary movie if it would lead to something like this happening. She had no qualms about playfully scaring him, but to see him like this was a bit upsetting for her.

When the movie was finally over, Setsuka took deep breaths to calm down her racing heart. She then looked up at her husband's face as he sat in her lap and clung to her with his fingers turning white from his grip, it seemed that Nikei was having a harder time calming down than she was.

"Hey, hey. Everything's fine, Nik. Come on, deep breaths," she comforted, wrapping her arms around him and rubbing his back. With more gentle words and reassurances, the journalist slowly removed himself from his wife and began to calm down.

Finally, Nikei moved back to beside her on the couch. "Sorry about that," he sighed. "How about we watch a different movie? This one was a little too..."

"Intense?" Setsuka supplied, knowing that the journalist had too much pride to admit that the movie was too scary for him. "I also got a bunch of comedy movies, plus some old nostalgia films, we should watch those together!"

Nikei watched her pick up another DVD case and began to laugh. "You want to watch Iron Man? You know what, why not? After what we just watched, it's a nice change of pace," he agreed.

"Not just that, I got the Infinity Saga DVD collection! We can binge for however long we want!" Setsuka happily announced, and went to switch the horror movie DVD with the Iron Man DVD. Nikei went to the kitchen to get them some glasses of water, and Setsuka had used the remote to skip to the main menu by the time he came back.

Once again, Nikei leaned against Setsuka, but not out of fear this time. As the movie progressed throughout the night, the journalist became sleepier and sleepier. However, he kept suddenly waking up with adrenaline jolts.

Setsuka eventually got concerned over these constant jolts and nudged him. "Hey, you alright?" she asked. "You keep on startling yourself, I don't think that's normal for those falling asleep..."

Nikei sighed and rubbed his forehead. "Sorry, I guess the first movie gave me some kind of subconscious fear. It's alright though, I can handle it- Ah?"

Before he could finish his sentence, Setsuka suddenly pulled him close and hugged him. "I guess I screwed up by picking that movie, sorry about that. Here, Big Sis will protect you now, you'll be safe."

"What the hell? We're married now, you don't have to call yourself that..." Nikei protested, despite relaxing on her. His words died on his tongue, and he found himself hugging her back as he began to blush fiercely.

Setsuka began to pull him as she laid down across the couch, covering herself with the tired journalist and letting him lay on top of her. She wrapped an arm around him to secure him, and she felt him finally relax against her. He only jolted awake from adrenaline a couple times, but when she began gently rubbing his back, he grew still on her.

When the movie came to a quiet and romantic part, she checked on the journalist on top of her. As she suspected, Nikei had fallen fast asleep. In her eyes, it would be a crime to wake her workaholic husband, so all she could do is stay in place. Setsuka smiled and kissed his forehead, then went back to watching the movie by herself.
