Final part

Y/N's P.O.V.

A sharp pain in my ribs made me stop outside of my apartment building, looking up with dread. I took a few shaky breaths, before moving my jacket out of the way and looking at the rapidly growing bloodstain on my top.
As it turned out, winding up a super soldier and an ex assassin was a really bad idea, not that it mattered. I just had to go upstairs and get Delilah out. Besides, the bullet only grazed me.
I took the elevator, checking my bullets and preparing myself. I knew that my chances of getting out were slim, but as long as Delilah was safe, I didn't care.
The door was left slightly open, the lock broken. I pushed it open slowly, walking forward.

"Let's not make this harder than it has to be." I spoke calmly.
"You come forward and give me my daughter, unharmed, and I might let you walk away from this alive."

"Oh, that's cute." A voice replied as I stepped into the kitchen, finding an all too familiar assassin. Both Happy and Delilah were sat at the table, their wrists and ankles bound with duct tape. Their mouths were also taped shut. Happy looked like he had taken more than a few hits and there was a small cut just above Delilah's temple. Tears stained her cheeks and I had to take a breath to stop myself losing control then and there.
"Protective Mommy Y/N to the rescue."

"You're a dead woman, McLean." I warned, making her laugh.

"Oh, and to think... we all thought you to be a heartless murderer." She grinned and I felt my lips pull up into a smirk. I had to feign confidence, I had to throw her off. She couldn't know I was hurt.

"No, just the regular kind of murderer, I'm afraid." I replied and she chuckled in response.
"And like I said, you're a dead woman."

"Really? Because it looks like I've got the upper hand here." She looked back at Delilah. I took my gun and aimed it at her, but all she did was laugh.
"Kill me, go ahead, but you should know that she will never be safe. The boss is just going to send someone else."

"What, and she'll only stop when I come back? When I pledge my allegiance back to the organisation?" I scoffed.

"No, she'll only stop when you're dead and your daughter pledges her allegiance to the organisation." I glared at her with hatred and anger.

"That will never happen." I took the safety off of the gun and Delilah let out a quiet whimper. I looked at her with sorrow and regret, when footsteps behind me caught my attention. I turned and the gun was smacked out of my hand as someone I didn't recognise grabbed my arms, pulling me back.

"We thought you'd say that." McLean shrugged as she picked up the gun. I struggled in an attempt to escape the man holding me still, but he didn't even move.
"Where are your little Avengers friends now?" She raised the gun, before using it to land a painful hit across my cheek. I clenched my jaw for a moment as I heard Delilah scream.

"I'm sorry, Delilah." I looked at her.
"It's going to be okay."

"Lying to your kid? Maybe you are heartless after all." The woman in front of me laughed, before punching me in the stomach. I groaned as my head drop and McLean gasped dramatically.
"What's this?" I felt my top being peeled away from the injury on my side and I struggled not to make a sound.
"Looks like we're not the only ones who want you dead, L/N. That looks nasty. Does it hurt?"

"Kill me, but let them go." I looked at her carefully.
"Please."

"Begging are we?" McLean laughed.
"God, that's pathetic."

"You never did pay much attention to your surroundings, did you?" I asked quietly and she grabbed my chin, making me look at her.
"You were too busy torturing me you didn't hear it." I smirked weakly at her confused expression.
"I wasn't begging... I was stalling." Her eyes widened as there was a bang from the front door. The guy holding me threw me to the side and I caught myself on the counter. McLean had a panicked look in her eyes, but she quickly covered it up with anger. She raised the gun at me, about to pull the trigger when it was blasted out of her hands completely and she was thrown back by another blast.

"L/N?" Stark's faceplate lifted up and he looked at me with concern.

"About damn time you showed up." I mumbled.
"I'm fine. Get Delilah and Happy out." He hesitated, before doing as I did and I grabbed a kitchen towel and pressed it against my side in an attempt to stop the bleeding. I had already lost a lot of blood, I was surprised I was still standing, but I was sure that it was the adrenaline keeping me going.

"Mommy!" Delilah ran to me and I knelt down, wrapping my free arm around her. She held onto me tightly and began to cry and I had to close my eyes to stop myself from doing the same.
"You're hurt."

"I know, but I'm going to be okay. We both are, I promise." I kissed her cheek, frowning at the cut on her head. Stark looked at me as he helped Happy up.
"Iron Man is going to look after you for a little bit. Okay?"

"No! I don't want you to go!" She held me a little tighter and I sighed.

"Come on, kiddo. Your mom needs to get to a hospital." Stark knelt down next to us.
"You can't stay with her right now, but we'll go and see her once she's feeling better, how about that?" Delilah looked unsure and I nudged her towards him slightly.
"There's an ambulance on the way. Happy is going to wait with you whilst I take her back to the tower." I nodded my head and he lowered his faceplate.

"Y'know, it seems like I'm always thanking you." I muttered, making Stark jump. He looked up from his phone with wide eyes and I smiled slightly.

"How are you feeling? The doctors said that you're-"

"I don't really care what the doctors said, honestly." I sighed.
"I feel like shit, but I've been worse." He nodded his head and Delilah shifted next to me on the bed. She had been fast asleep next to me since I woke up, but I didn't want to disturb her.
"How was she?"

"She has a mild concussion, but nothing major. She didn't even need stitches. She's a brave kid." I smiled down at her, nodding my head.
"Everyone knows about her now. Fury wants you both staying in the tower until we catch the rest of the organisation. This can't happen again."

"I know." I mumbled.

"I'm sorry." Stark sighed.
"I said I'd protect you both and I broke my promise. You both got hurt-"

"Tony." I interrupted.
"You saved us. You saved me. If you had actually listened to me and stayed away, I wouldn't be alive. I never expected to get out of there alive. Thank you."

"You're not mad?" He asked.

"No." I shook my head, giving him the best smile I could.
"I'm exhausted, but not mad. Far from it, actually."

"I'll let you get some rest then." Tony chuckled, standing up.
"Do you want me to take her? She has a room set up, right next to yours."

"No, but if you could move her onto there." I gestured to the bed next to mine and he nodded, scooping her up. Delilah stirred, muttering something in her sleep, before Tony put her down and covered her over.
"Thanks, Tony."

"What happened to calling me Stark?" He joked, looking at me, before gasping dramatically.
"Don't tell me you're actually beginning to warm up to me?"

"Shut up." I laughed, before wincing and holding onto my side.
"Well, maybe a little bit."

"Thought so." Tony grinned.
"You need to stop thanking me as much."

"You keep helping me out, what else am I supposed to do?"

"Kiss me?" He joked.
"Get some rest, Y/N." He leaned down and kissed my head, but I grabbed the collar of his tee and pulled him closer, pressing my lips firmly against his. He kissed me back almost instantly, his hand cupping my cheek. The kiss quickly became heated and I broke away, seeing a slight blush on the playboy's cheeks.

"How about we continue this when my daughter isn't asleep next to us?" I asked and he chuckled.

"It's a date."
